Frazer Girls Get First Conference Win

Frazer's girls basketball team picked up their first conference win this past week with a 75-57 win over the Coyotes in Dodson Jan. 13. The Bearcubs lost the following night 77-11 to the North Country Mavericks, the number-one ranked Class C girls team in the state, at home. Frazer's record is now 1-3, 3-6 overall.

The Bearcubs win over the Coyotes was powered with 20-plus point performances in the second and third quarters. Frazer led Dodson 15-13 at the end of the first and outscored their hosts 22-15 in the second quarter. The Bearcubs came out just as strong in the third with 21 points while again holding the Coyotes to 15. Frazer edged Dodson by a single point in the final eight minutes, 17-16.

Captains Shakira Beston and Angel Nelligan led the Bearcubs with 21 and 16 points, respectively, with each draining four shots from downtown. Isabelle Even and Bailey Beston added 9 points each with all of Even's coming from beyond the arc and Beston going 1-for-2 at the free throw line. Angeline White added 3 with a free throw. Liana Jackson hit one from the floor and Audrey Smoker sank 2-of-2 bonus shots.

Dodson had only four fouls while Frazer had 14, split evenly between the halves.

Even, S. Beston and B. Beston each drew three calls. L. Jackson and Smoker had two fouls each while Nelligan drew a single whistle.

Frazer faced a tougher game against a strong North Country team the following night, falling 77-11. B. Beston had 6 points, Nelligan 3 and Smoker 2 in the game. Further stats were unavailable.

Frazer's lone game this week is in Scobey Thursday, Jan. 19. The girls tip off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the boys game at 7 p.m.
