Nashua's girls basketball team split a pair of home games in their first week back after the holiday break. The Porcupines defeated Frazer 44-32 Friday night before falling 36-24 to Brockton the following evening, giving Nashua a 1-2 conference record, 3-5 overall.
Nashua took a 12-4 lead over Frazer in the first quarter Friday and outscored the Bearcubs 9-7 in the second for a 21-11 lead at the half. The visitors came out of the locker room hot, putting up 12 while holding the Porcupines to 3 points in the third. Nashua recovered with a 20-point showing in the final eight minutes, giving up 9 points to Frazer in the frame.
Tia Dees led the way for Nashua with 18 points while Kaitlyn Miller added 11. Guinevere Abern added 7 points, Alexis Murdock 6 and Gracyn Sibley 2 points.
Frazer 19 fouls while Nashua had 12, split evenly between the halves.
Dees drew four whistles and Miller had three fouls. Madison Harris had two infractions while Murdock, Abern and Sibley had one foul each.
The following night the Porcupines faced the Brockton Warriors in a game where Nashua trailed at the end of all four quarters. Brockton held a 9-5 lead at the end of the first and increased it to 16-10 at the half. The Warriors put up 16 in the third while holding the Porcupines to 5 points. Nashua rallied in the final eight minutes with 9 points but still found themselves on the wrong side of a 36-24 outcome.
Dees again led in points with 9, going 5-for-10 at the charity stripe. Abern added 6 with a shot from downtown. Miller added 4 before leaving the game with a sprained wrist in the second half. Sibley added 3 points on a bucket and a free throw and Madison Harris added one from inside the arc.
Brockton was called for 17 fouls while Nashua had 14, split evenly between the halves.
Dees drew four whistles while Abern had three fouls. Murdock, Sibley and Harris drew the officials' attention twice each.
Nashua hosted Dodson Jan. 10 but scores were unavailable at press time.
The Porcupines take on the Spartans in Scobey this Friday, Jan. 13. The JV girls tip off at 4 p.m. followed by a JV boys game at 5 p.m., both half games. Varsity girls play at 6 p.m. with the varsity boys playing at 7:30 p.m.
