North Country Girls Improve to 7-0

North Country's girls basketball team improved their record to 7-0 with three wins over the past weekend. The Mavericks rolled over Nashua 61-11 in Hinsdale Dec. 15 and followed that with a 60-12 win over Dodson the next night in Whitewater. They traveled to Circle Dec. 17 where they posted a 54-31 victory.

The Mavericks put up 13 assists and 20 steals with nine turnovers in their win over the Porcupines Thursday. Teagan Erickson led the team with 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Paige Wasson added 9 points and four rebounds while Kora LaBrie put up 7 points, two assists and five steals.

In Whitewater, the Mavericks had 16 assists and five turnovers as a team. Erickson again led North Country, hitting for 21 points with six rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Wasson added 10 points with four assists and two blocks while Jose Brown connected for 8 points.

North Country had 11 assists and nine turnovers in their win over the Wildcats Saturday. Wasson put up 16 points with five rebounds and two steals. Erickson had 8 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks. Kendall Scheffelmear added 7 points with seven rebounds, two assists and three steals. Mattea McColly connected for 9 points.

"The Lady Mavericks are headed into the break with a 7-0 record on the season. The girls are playing well but still have plenty of things they can improve on and will work on over the break so that they can be ready to continue to roll into the second half our our season," said head coach Amber Erickson. "They are a fun group to coach and watch and they are having a blast playing the game they love."

North Country next hits the hardwood Thursday, Jan. 5, 2023, in Saco where they host the Glasgow Scotties. The girls varsity plays at 6 p.m. followed by the boys varsity at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, the Mavericks travel to Scobey to take on the Spartans with the girls playing at 6 p.m. followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.
