Frazer Girls Win First Game

Frazer’s girls basketball team kicked off the 2022-23 season with an exciting pair of games at the Lockwood Tip Off Tournament in Billings this past weekend. The Bearcubs won their first game against Park City after a fourth quarter rally, 40-33, on Friday. Saturday they took Bridger to overtime but lost 43-38.

Park City took an early lead over Frazer – 10-7 at the end of the first – and held it for most of the game. Frazer trailed 16-15 at the half and 26-25 after three quarters. In the final eight minutes of play the Bearcubs held Park City to 7 points while putting 15 up on their side of the scoreboard for the 40-33 win.

Angel Nelligan and Shakira Beston each scored 10 points for the Bearcubs. Beston hit two threes and Nelligan drained one from beyond the arc. Isabelle Even, Angeline White and Audrey Smoker added 6 a piece with Even hitting a shot from downtown. Liana Jackson added a field goal.

Frazer had 11 fouls in the game. Smoker was called for two while Jackson and White each had two. Even, Leigha Smoker and Nelligan were called for one foul each.

Saturday, Frazer took on Bridger. After a slow start that saw the Bearcubs trailing 10-2 at the end of the first, Frazer rallied. They added 12 points in the second quarter while holding Bridger to 8 points. Frazer outscored Bridger 15-10 in the third quarter to carry a 29-28 lead into the final quarter. Bridger edged Frazer by a point in the fourth to send the game to overtime knotted at 36.

The Bearcubs ran into foul trouble and gave Bridger six bonus shots in the extra period. Bridger hit five of those plus a field goal while hold Frazer to a single bucket for the win.

Beston had 12 points to lead the Bearcubs, including two treys and going 2-for-2 at the charity stripe. Nelligan hit a three-pointer and added 7 points and White added 6 points on three field goals. A. Smoker hit a three-pointer and a field goal while Even and Jackson added 4 points each.

Frazer had 22 fouls and a technical in the game. Even, Jackson and A. Smoker all fouled out with A. Smoker getting called for a technical foul. White had three fouls while Nelligan and Beston each had two fouls.

The Bearcubs will next hit the hardwood Friday, Dec. 16, in Savage for a 5:30 p.m. matchup against the Warriors. Tuesday, Dec. 20, the host the Scobey Spartans for a 5:30 p.m. game.
