Glasgow Stockyards Market Report

The market report for the Glasgow Stockyards as of Oct. 13 show 2162 cattle sold. First test on feeder calves for the 2022 fall run and 1,600 feeders on the auction. There were over a dozen buyers on the seats with cattle going to eight states and over 95 percent of calves had fall shots. The calf market was showing strength on all classes with mostly 350 to 550 pounds weight represented.

Cows were steady with bulls steady to strong on higher yielding kind. Utility and commercial cows brought in $65 to $83 with the top selling for $91. Canner and cutter cows brought in $60 to $70 and bulls brought in $85 to $104.

300-400 SC brought in $225-$235, HC $191 to $204; 400-500 SC $214 to $230.25, HC $186 to $211; and 500 to 600 SC $190 to $214.75, HC $179 to $191.50.

Thursday, Oct. 20 is the Dunbar Bros. 15th annual Bred Heifer Auction and Galpin Angus Herd Dispersion, and Stock Cow/Bred Heifer Special with feeder cattle and weigh up cows and bulls.

Dunbar Ranch will sell 126 Angus bred heifers, 50 A.I. to Patriarch and 76 bull bred to calve March 20 for 45 days.

Galpin Angus will sell 37 cows, two to 10 years old; one yearling bull, 15 bred heifers, spring calves; 24 heifers and 12 bulls. These are all registered Angus cows with 35 years of A.I. and selective breeding.

Dispersion is 200 black coming three-to-five year old cows, (one load coming 3’s; one load coming 4’s; two loads coming 5 and coming 6’s.) Home raised 1 Iron out of a closed herd. Out of a closed herd. Bred black, EID tagged/bangs vaccinated with readable shields to calve April 1 to May 25. Vet tested Oct. 3 and given Vira-shield 6 VL5, tested by Dr. Levesque.

Also available will be 40 black coming five-year-old bred cows, bred black to calve April 4 for 60 days. Spring shots, tested by Dr. Maxwell, home raised. Dispersion 42 Angus cows, bred to Hinman Angus bulls, 22 three to four year olds, six seven and eights, 14 ten years old, will be tested in the yards, to calve April 1 for 60 days.

Thirty-four black bred heifers bred black to calve March 30 for 45 days. 10 purebred Angus bred heifers. Dispersion 11 five to seven-year old Red Angus bred cows. There will also be several tentative consignments of bred heifers and bred cows.

There are lots of consignments of spring calves on the books.
