Scottie Volleyball 3-1 in District 2B

Glasgow’s volleyball squad improved to 3-1 in District 2B play with a win over Wolf Point Sept. 22 on the road. The Scotties then traveled to North Dakota Sept. 23 and 24, for the annual Dickinson Invitational where they secured a third-place finish in the silver bracket.

The Scotties took the first set 25-13 over the Wolves on the road before Wolf Point tied the match with a 25-13 win over Glasgow. The Scotties took the next two sets by scores of 25-19 and 25-11.

Glasgow had five aces, 25 kills, 23 assists, 14 blocks and 59 digs in the win.

Carly Nelson led in aces with two while Tatum Nyquist, Joely Chappell and Sammy Tryan added one a piece. Nelson also led the team in kills with 10. Nyquist followed with six, Piper Johnson four, Ava Lloyd three and Daley Aune two.

Aune put up 19 of the team’s assists as Macy Martin added three and Tryan one. Aune, Johnson and Lloyd led in blocks with four each while Nelson and Nyquist stopped one shot a piece. Tryan led in digs with 25 followed by Martin with 13 and Aune with 10. Nelson had six digs, Nyquist four and Johnson one.

The JV team also won their match in four by scores of 21-25, 25-20, 15-8, 16-14. The c-squad took their match to five sets but also brought home a win, 25-21, 25-22, 11-15, 12-15, 16-14.

In Dickinson the Scotties were down two starters, short Nelson and Lloyd, which gave head coach Brooke Martin the opportunity to provide her younger players varsity-level experience. “...so our young girls got 6 matches in in less than 24 hours!”

Glasgow dropped their three pool games on Friday. Baker defeated Glasgow 25-11, 25-6, 15-9 in the Scotties’ first match. They then fell to Glen Ullin/Hebrong (ND) 25-21, 25-19, 15-8 before losing their final pool play match to Watford City (ND) 27-25, 25-23, 8-15.

Moving into bracket play Glasgow again suffered defeat in the opening round, losing to New England (ND) 25-15, 27-25.

However, the Scotties rebounded to finish their tournament with two wins. Glasgow downed Killdeer (ND) 17-25, 25-18, 17-15 before moving on to defeat Richardton-Taylor (ND) 25-20, 18-25, 15-13 to take third place in the silver bracket.

“I was so happy with how hard the girls played,” B. Martin said. “It could have been easy to give minimal effort without their regular team but they worked even harder with no subs!”

The Scottie volleyball team will be on the road this week before diving into homecoming activities and games the week of Oct. 3. Glasgow travels to Sidney Thursday, Sept. 29, for c-squad, JV and varsity matches beginning at 4:30 p.m. All three teams are scheduled to play again Friday, Sept. 30, in Fairview beginning at 3 p.m.
