Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Micheal Sonsteng

The world became brighter on Nov. 23,1952, when Carole and Kenneth Sonsteng welcomed their first-born Micheal Kenneth Sonsteng. Mike left this world peacefully Thursday, July 21, 2022, with his daughter Re’chele and her mother Rene’ by his side. He put on a mighty fight for many years battling Multiple Sclerosis, as a true stubborn Norwegian. He held on long enough to say his goodbyes to his mom, sister Renee, brother Eric, and daughter Katie. Surrounded in a room full of some of the people he loved the most.

Celebration of life is yet to be determined.

Micheal was born and raised on a farm in Glasgow, Mont. On Oct. 13,1979, he married Louanne Schmaing. They had two beautiful children Jared and Katie. Mike attended welding school and received an associate in business from MSU. In 1988 he and his family packed up and made Lovell, Wyo., home after purchasing the 4 Corners Bar. Though he and Louanne separated they remained special friends. He then met Rene’ Corbett and they welcomed their baby peanut (Re’chele) May 28,1995. They continued to be best friends ever since. He also loved and thought of Rene’s son, Jaycee, as one of his own. Mike owned the 4 corners bar for 15 years and could tell countless stories of the fun he had. He met some cherished friends who stuck by his side until the very end.

He was an entertainer full of stories and jokes. He shared fond memories of his youth which included cowboying in the badlands of Montana, wild adventures with his siblings, cousins and uncles, and life on the farm. Mike didn’t go anywhere without making a new friend. He touched the lives of everyone who encountered him. The most pleasure he got in life was making people smile and laugh. Even during his last days, he was still trying to crack a joke. He couldn’t bear to see someone without a smile. He lived a life full of adventure, love, and a whole lot of laughter which most people never experience. No matter what life threw at him, he lived for the moment never taking anything for granted. He loved everyone in his life deeply. He was so proud of where he came from and all his loved ones. He was a special person with a heart of gold.

“There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone, the light remains.” -unknown

He is preceded in death by his father Kenneth Sonsteng.
