Montana Trip June 2022

Dear Editor,

After homesteading in Valley County and later living on farms bordering the Milk River near Hinsdale and Glasgow, the family of John Sherwood and Ruth Hellen Clark Sherwood, my parents, moved from Glasgow to Missouri in June of 1951.

My June 2 through 8, 2022 trip to Montana with my daughter and three nieces was a trip of a lifetime for me.

The people we met went above and beyond to help us! I am deeply grateful to each of you! Two of the days were travel days, so in the time we had, we accomplished more than we dared to hope. With much help we did the following:

Located the graves of my infant brother and sister who died and are buried in Opheim. The temporary marker had long since disappeared. I ordered a permanent monument.

Located my grandmother's (Caroline W. Clark) grave in Glasgow. Also located her obituary. Arriving in Hinsdale in 1915, she proved up on a homestead in the Genevieve Country. She moved to Glasgow in 1944.

Located Mrs. See's house/sometime hospital in Hinsdale where my sister and I were born. It is in very good shape and it is now a church.

Located the farm near Hinsdale where we lived and where another sister was born. Dr. Cockrell came to our house for her delivery.

Met numerous people who knew people I had known as a child in Hinsdale and Glasgow. What fun!

Met many people who are interested in my historical book about homesteading and farm life on Milk River that is being published by Farcountry Press, Helena, Mont. The company who was responsible for the cover completed it in record time. However, the company who is printing the text and pictures is still holding for late summer or early fall completion date, "Where The Wind Never Sleeps, A Memoir from the High Plains of Montana."

Sincerely,

Ruth M. Sherwood

Springfield, Mo.
