Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Pool Campaign Receives Substantial Donation

The Valley County Community Pool Campaign recently received a generous anonymous donation of $250,000, now making the total raised towards the funding of a new swimming pool in Glasgow, as of May 9, $1,9501,141 of the $3,304,000 goal.

The donor decided to support the cause as a way to give back to the community that has given them so much throughout the years. “Glasgow has been good to me since I’ve lived here. I love kids – they need every opportunity to develop socially and physically,” they explained on why they decided to donate.

The donor also expressed the importance of learning how to swim at a young age and how those skills are necessary. “Swimming is a lifelong skill that people need to learn early on and be able to use those skills in case of an emergency,” they stated. “I was a Red Cross lifeguard through the Scouts and helped kids swim at the lake. My kids also took lessons.”

In addition to learning how to swim, they feel a new pool would help attract new faces to not only Glasgow, but Valley County as well. “It’s one more thing to make the area appealing to someone looking to move here,” they said.

The donor hopes with their donation, they encourage others to support the project to the best of their abilities.

In addition to this recent donation, the younger generation of Glasgow is also getting into helping the cause. The Glasgow Middle School Builders Club, under advisors Nicole Boos and Laurie Enebo, is challenging their classmates in a competition to raise funds. According to Enebo, students are encouraged to bring in their spare change, and even dollars, for the “It’s Time For CHANGE, We Need A New Pool” event.

“The eighth-grade jar seems pretty heavy, but the seventh-grade jar is certainly lighter but there are more dollars in there!,” stated Enebo. The students have until May 26 to contribute, with the final tally being completed on May 31. Enebo encourages the community to provide coins and dollars to any middle schooler to contribute to the cause.

In addition to these donations, other fundraising efforts are currently being planned to help the Campaign reach their goal. The first ever Motorcycle Poker Ride is set for Saturday, May 28, with signups starting at 10 a.m. at Sam and Jeff’s in Glasgow. There will also be the Titanic Challenge on June 12, at 3 p.m. at the pool where teams of three in canoes will be pitted against other teams in a timed race to try to swamp the other teams’ canoes. Rock Dee House Dueling Pianos is also set to perform a rock-n-roll interactive sing-a-long comedy show on two baby grand pianos in November.

The Valley County Community Pool Campaign now has a 501c3 organization, Valley County Friends of the Pool, where in addition to cash they can receive appreciated assets, Thrivent Choice dollars, commodities, appreciated sock and retirement distributions. Donations can be made through their website, http://www.valcopool.com or by emailing [email protected] or calling 406-228-8341.
