Scottie Boys Season Ends at Divisional

Seniors Miller and Sand Close High School Careers in Front of Home Crowd

The Glasgow Scottie boys basketball team saw their season come to end this past weekend at the Norther B Divisional tournament. The Scotties struggled offensively, unable to buy a bucket in their two games.

Glasgow fell behind Shelby in the first half as the Coyotes went on to win 51-28 in game one on Thursday. The loss moved the Scotties to loser-out action where they faced Fairfield. The Eagles scored first and built that lead into a 67-42 victory.

In their opening game on Thursday, the Scotties held tight with the Coyotes, trailing only 10-7 after one. However, Shelby took firm control of the game with a 17-point second quarter, while holding Glasgow to 3 points, to carry a 27-10 lead into the intermission.

In the third quarter the Coyotes outscored the Scotties by a 2-1 margin, 18-9, for a 45-19 lead to start the final quarter. Glasgow outperformed Shelby offensively in the fourth, 9-6, but were unable to overcome the lead the Coyotes had built.

Keigan Ingram was the only Scottie to break into double-digit scoring. He connected on two of four shots from three-point land and scored on two of two from inside for 10 points. Wyatt Babb hit four field goals for 8 points and Riley Smith added 5 points, with a trey. Dalton Sand hit a three-pointer and KJ Ingram added a bucket from inside.

Shelby outworked Glasgow on the boards, 29-23. K. Ingram snagged 9 rebounds for Glasgow. Smith followed with four boards while Babb and KJ Ingram had three each. Bergen Miller had two. Sand and Ashton Potter grabbed one rebound each.

Miller led the Scotties in assists with two while Potter, Smith, Babb and K. Ingram added one a piece. Smith had three steals for Glasgow as Babb, Miller and K. Ingram had one takeaway each.

Glasgow hit only 28.6 percent of their shots from the floor, going 4-for-21 from outside. Shelby denied Glasgow any bonus shots while the Coyotes hit 4-of-10 from the stripe and shot 50 percent from the field, 58.3 percent from downtown.

The Scotties found some improvement in their next game, when the faced the Eagles on Friday. Glasgow shot 31.8 percent from the floor, 14.3 from three-point land, but Fairfield outperformed them with a field goal percentage of 48.1, 35.0 on three-pointers, and going 58.8 percent from the line.

Fairfield scored the first two buckets of the game and never relinquished their lead. The Eagles went up 17-5 after one and held a 38-13 lead at the half.

By the end of the third quarter, the Scotties faced a 30-point deficit – 57-27. Glasgow cut into Fairfield's lead in the final eight minutes, scoring 15 points to the Eagles' 10, but found themselves down 67-42 at the final buzzer.

K. Ingram was again the only Scottie to hit double digits. He poured in 17 points for Glasgow, hitting 50 percent from the field and going 5-for-8 at the line. Babb added 9 points on three field goals and hitting 3-of-3 on free throws. Smith and Miller each hit a three-pointer, a field goal and a free throw to add 6 points each to Glasgow's side of the scoreboard. Potter and K. Ingram each scored a basket.

Glasgow fought an even battle on the boards with Fairfield with each team snagging 22 rebounds. Babb snagged eight of Glasgow's rebounds with Smith and K. Ingram grabbing six each. Sand pulled down four boards, Miller three and KJ Ingram two.

Babb also led the team in assists with three. Smith and Miller had two each. K. Ingram contributed one helper while leading in steals with five. Smith had three takeaways while Sand and Babb had one each.

Shelby finished in third place at the tournament, falling to Malta 46-42 before defeating Poplar 66-57 in loser-out action. They defeated Rocky Boy 59-50 in the third-place match-up.

Malta defeated Harlem 83-67 in the title match. The Mustangs defeated Fairfield 63-53 in day one action and downed Shelby 46-42 in the semi-final game.

Miller and Sand concluded their Scottie basketball careers in front of a home crowd, bringing to a close their years playing in Glasgow.
