Lustre Christian Lions Defeat Nashua Porcupines

The Lions boys basketball team has established itself as the apex predator this season. Lustre Christian defended their den Friday night, downing the Nashua Porcupines 51-16.

Lustre Christian wasted no time in putting points up on the big board, leaping out to a 22-2 lead after eight minutes of play. The Lions carried a 41-5 lead into the half. The home team outscored their guests 6-4 in the third while Nashua put up 7 points to Lustre Christian's 4 in the final quarter.

Kolden Hoversland led all scorers with 16 points. Braden Ewing and Jasiah Hambira each added 10 and Cayden Klatt scored 9 points. Kaleb Hoversland added another 4 and Clay Reddig added a field goal. Kolden Hoversland was called for two fouls while Klatt, Gabe Alves, Alex Chen, Ewing, Hambira and Nathan Fast had one a piece.

Hambira pulled down nine rebounds for the Lions and Ewing had 6, Kolden Hoversland five, Kaleb Hoversland and Chen three each with Klatt and Alves grabbing one a piece. Kolden Hoversland also led in steals with five followed by Ewing and Hambira with two each. Klatt, Alves and Reddig also notched a takeaway. Kolden Hoversland had four assists, Hambira three, Reddig two and Ewing one.

Lustre Christian's game against Culbertson on Saturday was initially rescheduled to Thursday, but the games were postponed. At press time a make-up date had not been announced.

The Lions traveled to Scobey Jan. 25. Scores were not available at press time.

Friday, Jan. 28, Lustre Christian hosts Bainville with a short girls' JV game at 3:30 p.m. followed by the boys' JV game at 4:30 p.m. The girls' varsity will start at 6 p.m. and boys' varsity at 7:30 p.m.
