Frazer Boys Lose Two

Correction: Last week’s headline and story on the Frazer Bearcubs boys basketball team stated the team won their first game in five years. The win was the first in three years. The Courier apologizes for the error.

The Frazer boys basketball team fell in two conference match-ups this past weekend. The Bearcubs fell to the visiting Dodson Coyotes 75-24 Jan. 14 and then lost to a hot North Country team 83-37 in Hinsdale Jan. 15.

Dodson roared out to a 24-7 lead in the first quarter and increased their margin to 52-16 at the half. Back on the court after the break, Frazer was down 62-21 at the end of the third before being outscored 13-3 in the final quarter.

Keein Ackerman put up 9 points for the Bearcubs with two field goals, a three-pointer, and going 2-for-2 at the line. John Hotomanie scored 8 points, Ryker Ackerman 5 and Ty Fourstar 2.

Frazer had 11 fouls. R. Ackerman was called for three, Jonathan Jackson , Fourstar and Joseph Beston 2 each and Hotomanie and K. Ackerman one a piece.

Saturday in Hinsdale, the Mavericks also took early control of the game, going up 27-11 after the first quarter. They outscored Frazer 22-10 in the second for a 49-21 lead at the half.

Frazer was unable to stop North Country’s scoring streak in the third as the Mavericks put up 25 points to Frazer’s 9. The Bearcubs were again outscored, 9-7, in the final eight minutes of play.

K. Ackermann put up 13 points for the Bearcubs. R. Ackerman added 8 and Hotomanie 7. Jonathan Jackson scored 5 while Blue Fettig, Fourstar and Beston added 2 points a piece.

Frazer had only eight fouls in the game, three in the second half. Fettig was called for four of those while Jackson, Fourstar, Beston and Jarvis GoodBird had one each.

Frazer hosts the Scobey Spartans Friday, Jan. 21 with the girls varsity playing at 5:30 p.m. followed by the boys at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, the Bearcubs travel to Froid for a girls varsity game at 6 p.m. and a boys varsity game at 7:30 p.m.
