Nashua Girls Split Games

Nashua’s girls basketball team split their pre-holiday break games at home last week, losing to North Country 59-14 on Tuesday before rebounding to defeat Dodson 40-27 on Wednesday.

The Porcupines hosted a tough Mavericks team Tuesday. The visitors immediately ran up a 19-5 lead and increased it to 38-7 heading into the half.

North Country held Nashua to 4 and 3 points in the third and fourth quarters, respectively, while putting up 17 and 4 points themselves in the final two periods of play.

Tia Dees led Nashua in points with 8 while Hadyn Adkins, Kaitlyn Miller and Alyssa Murdock scored 2 each.

The low-fouling first half saw Nashua incur three fouls while North Country was called for a single infraction. Nashua was called for eight fouls in the second half while the visitors had five infractions.

Adkins had four fouls and Miller two. Alexis Murdock, Deja Morgan, Dees, Keelynn Skolrud, and Gracyn Sibley had one each.

The Porcupines returned to the court the following evening to take on the Coyotes. Balanced scoring in the first quarter gave Nashua a 12-9 lead. They added 9 points in the second while holding Dodson to 6 to take a 21-15 lead into halftime.

Returning to the hardwood Nashua held Dodson to a single field goal while adding 12 to the home side of the scoreboard. The Coyotes rallied in the final eight minutes with 10 points but Nashua maintained the lead with 7 of their own.

Dees again led the Porcupines in points with 17 while Miller put up 11. Alexis Murdock scored 7, including a trey. Alyssa Murdock and Adkins each scored a field goal and Deja Morgan added a free throw.

Nashua had 17 fouls, 10 in the second half while Dodson had nine, five of which came in the second 16 minutes. Adkins was called for four; Miller and Morgan three each; Dees, Alyssa Murdock and Madison Harris two a piece, and Alexis Murdock one.

The Porcupines return after the break on Friday, Jan. 8, 2022 with a game against the Frazer Bearcubs. The teams meet in Nashua at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, 2022, Nashua hosts Brockton with games beginning at 4 p.m.
