Scottie Cross Country Teams Win in Poplar

Both Glasgow cross country teams came home with first place finishes from the Poplar Invitational on Sept. 4.

The boys team claimed first place with 33 points beating out 12 other schools for the top slot. They were followed by Wolf Point, 72; Sidney, 125; Plentywood, 139; Scobey, 142; Culbertson, 146 and Poplar, 169.

The girls team beat out 17 schools to take first place with 112 points. They were followed by Plentywood, 131; Poplar, 137; Scobey, 141 and Sidney, 226.

Glasgow placed five runners in the top ten in Poplar, led by freshman Kyler Holinde. He placed fourth with a time of 18:33.95. "Our cross country meet went good this weekend," he said, "and the highlight is that we came first as a team." He went on to add, "I am glad to see our team chemistry is really good and are putting forth the effort to be competitive."

Junior Reed Larsen placed fifth after finishing in 18.38.10 and senior runner Bergen Miller ran the race in 18:44.70 to take sixth place. Lane Thompson, junior, placed eighth with a time of 18:56.37 and senior Dalton Sand rounded out the top ten with his time of 19:05.62.

Scottie senior Blake Lloyd placed 17th after finishing in 20:24.11. Eli Feezell, sophomore, placed 24th after running the race in 21:21.83. Ben Kompel, junior, and Adam Mickelson, freshman, placed 46th and 47th, respectively. Kompel ran a 25:36.11 and Mickelson ran a 25:56.54. Freshmen Ted See and Owen Thompson paced each other to 53rd and 54th place finishes. See's time was 27:35.77 and Thompson's was 27:37.77. Freshman Dean Lewis ran a 29:59.14 to finish in 60th place.

Iris McKean, Scottie senior, led her girls' team to their victory. She ran a 20:10.84 to finish in second place. Freshman Tanae Baker also turned in a top five performance, finishing in fourth place overall with her time of 21:08.85. The young runner was enthusiastic about the meet. She said, "It was a great morning to be running with perfect weather for such a physically tough course. We have trained for the hills we faced in Poplar and it showed as both the high school boys and girls brought home first place. We also ran very well individually."

Eve Stone, sophomore, turned in a time of 26:47.02 to finish in 31st place. Freshman Kheyerah Bilger placed 36th after finishing in 27:05.56. Haylly Turner finished in 39th place after the junior ran a 27:19.84. Freshman Abbey Kulczyk ran a 27:47.28 to finish in 42nd place.

The Glasgow cross country teams will be in Havre on Saturday, Sept. 11. The meet is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
