19U Ice Dawgs Caught in Red Wave

Missoula Defeats Glasgow at Home

The 19U Ice Dawgs dropped to home games to the visiting Missoula RED Lady Bruins over the weekend at the Valley Event Center. Penalties cost the Dawgs, who gave up five goals while down a player to the Bruins over two games. Glasgow lost 4 to 1 on Friday and 7 to 0 on Saturday. The visiting Bruins outshot the hosts by a margin of 44 to 18 Friday night and 30 to 11 Saturday morning.

Missoula took the 1-0 lead at the end of the first period Friday night. The Bruins doubled their lead early in the second period, scoring on the man-advantage while Dawgs Captain Tatum Provencher was in the penalty box for tripping. With 5:24 on the clock before intermission, Provencher scored Glasgow's lone goal of the game on an assist from Shanice Lagerquist. Missoula took back the two-goal lead with 1:29 before intermission, scoring on a power play while Kylie Lagerquist was serving time for tripping. The Bruins scored again in the final period to win 4-1.

Elizabeth Nyquist faced 12 shots in the first period, 19 in the second and 13 in the third. The Dawgs' offense managed only three attempts in the first period, but improved over the game, putting up six in the second and nine in the third. S. Lagerquist, tripping; and K. Lagerquist, checking from behind and misconduct were called for penalties in the first period. Provencher, tripping; Phoenix Phipps, body contact, and K. Lagerquist, tripping, were sent to the box in the second. K. Lagerquist and Halle Hunter each served time in the final period for tripping. Missoula incurred five penalties in the game, with all but one called in the second period.

Back on the ice Saturday morning, the Bruins jumped out to an early 5 to 0 lead in the first period, the final goal coming on a power play with Dawg Provencher in the penalty box for interference. Missoula's final two goals of the game, both in the second period, also came on the man-advantage. Goal number six came when K. Lagerquist was called for boarding and misconduct, with the penalty served by Phipps. The final goal in the Bruins' 7 to 0 win was scored while Hunter was serving time for roughing.

Missoula was called for only two infractions in the game while Glasgow served time for nine. In the first period, Hunter, roughing; Provencher, interference and S. Lagerquist, interference, served time. S. Lagerquist, body checking; K. Lagerquist, boarding and misconduct; Ava Lloyd, interference and high stick; and Hunter, roughing, were sent to the box in the second period. Nyquist saw 13, 8, and 9 shots over the three periods. The Dawgs offense mustered only 3, 4, and 4 shots each period.

The two home games marked the end of the Ice Dawgs regular season. The team now enters an extended break, with no games scheduled between now and the state tournament, which begins Friday, Feb. 26 in Bozeman.
