High School Ice Dawgs Take Two at Home

The High School Ice Dawgs bounced back this past weekend, Dec. 28 and 29, after suffering two disappointing losses to Billings the weekend prior.

Glasgow hosted the Copper City Kings, in town from Butte, at the Valley Event Center for a pair of games 12 hours apart. The action started at 8 p.m. Dec. 28 when the Dawgs took to the ice to defend their home. Copper City went up on the board first when Carson Barry scored with an assist from Noah Williamson.

Glasgow answered back just under two minutes later when Trevor Johnson found the back of the net with help from Ian Peterson and Colter Barnett on a power play. The Ice Dawgs got the go-ahead goal on the power play near the end of the first. With Karlie Hedges in the box for tripping, Gage Siefert registered the PPG with assists from Barnett and Isaac Braaten.

Glasgow owned the puck in the first period, putting 16 shots on goal, while Brayden Hansen faced only two in the net. The second period was all Glasgow again, as the Dawgs put 13 shots on net, converting on three of those, while holding Copper City to five scoring attempts.

Britten Fairclough kicked off the second-period scoring streak at two minutes 19 seconds, with an assist from Braaten. Assistant captain Koby Regalado found the back of the net for goal number four for the home team at 5:23 in the period. At 1:52, Michael Uphues put the Dawgs on the scoreboard again with help from Bailey Hansen and Siefert.

Braaten got the action started in the third period, beating the Kings' netminder one minute into play. Hayden Allen, assist Karlie Hedges, answered for Copper City at 14:17. Barnett notched a short-handed goal, assisted by Braaten, at 9:30 to close out the scoring for the game and giving Glasgow the 7-2 win. Brayden Hansen faced nine shots in the third while his teammates threw 13 at the Kings' netminder.

The chippy game had Glasgow in the penalty box five times while Copper City served eight penalties. Barnett notched a 10 and 2 for checking from behind in the second period. Peterson served two minutes for holding in the second and and two in the third for tripping. Uphues sat for two on an interference call in the third.

The Dawgs returned to the ice at 8 a.m. on Sunday morning for a similar result, adding to their win column, 9-2. Braaten put his team on the board first, with assists from Trevor Dulaney and Regalado. Williamson tied the game but Glasgow added two goals before the buzzer sounded. Bailey Hansen, assist Braaten, and Braaten, assists Siefert and Barnett, gave Glasgow the 3-1 lead.

The boys in white dominated puck control, firing 16 shots on net while Aiden Wilkowski faced only three in his end. The second period saw more even play as both teams registered 12 shots on goal. Braaten registered both of Glasgow's goals in the second period for a natural hat trick. Siefert and Uphues assisted on the power play goal, and Barnett was there for Braaten's next.

Johnson got the Dawgs going in the third, finding the back of the net on a power play with assists from Fairclough and Braaten. Less than a minute later, Barnett took the Dawgs to a 7-1 lead. Barnett was there to help Braaten notch his fifth goal of the game just over a minute later. Uphues closed out the scoring for the Dawgs, notching a goal at 10:45. Carson Barry put the Kings on the board with a PPG at 6:53, but Copper City fell to Glasgow with a final score of 9-2.

Wilkowski saw 11 shots in the final period, while his teammates scored on four of the six shots they put on net. The Dawgs also racked up more penalties than the Kings, 7-6. Fairclough was called for a 10 and 2 for checking from behind in the first. In the second 17 minutes, Peterson served two for tripping and Siefert was called for interference. Bailey Hansen was also called for checking from behind, serving a 10 and 2 in the second. Fairclough was called for slashing in the third.

The Ice Dawgs will on the ice in Bozeman next, playing games there Jan. 11 and 12.
