FORE the Kids Awards Scholarships To Three GHS Grads

Twenty-three two-person teams took to the links on July 28, to raise funds for scholarships for Scottie golfers. Though the legendary northeast Montana wind was blowing, there were plenty of great golf shots, helped along by big eight-inch cups.

The field of teams was divided into three flights, based on handicaps. "The most youths we've had play so far," said Jennifer Jackson, tournament co-director of the 12 junior golfers who joined the adults this year. "It's great to see the future of our golf program playing in tournaments!"

Winning the 'Z Flight' in the 18-hole Chapman format were Sandy Maczka and her grandson, Lak Kloker. Coming in first in the 'Y Flight' was the father and son team of Joel and Riley Smith. Taking top honors in the 'X Flight' were Jenn and Storm Jackson, wife and husband duo.

Following the two rounds of golf was the Drive, Chip & Putt contest for the youth players. The contest consisted of a drive from the Hole 1 tee box, chipping over the sand onto the green of Hole 9 and putting on the same green. Eli Feezel claimed the longest drive and Ian Peterson had the closest chip. Oden Hallock put the ball right in the hole for the closest putt. Each player won a dozen golf balls, donate by Josh and Jenni Sillerud. Peterson was also the overall winner, receiving a student membership, sponsored by Sunnyside Country Club, and an Amateur Golf Endorsement from Dixon Golf.

Thanks to donations from local businesses, many hole prizes were up for grabs, along with a raffle basket from Robyn's Nest, a booze cooler donated by Markle's Hardware and JR's Party Store, and a 50/50 cash drawing. Thanks to all the donations and players, $2,000 was added to the scholarship fund for next year.

The 2019 FORE the Kids Cup Scholarship recipients are Lexie Pehlke, Oden Hallock and Alexus Nistler. "We couldn't give these deserving students these scholarships without the support of our community, we thank everyone that has helped, donated and played!," said Tournament Co-Directors Sandy Maczka and Jennifer Jackson "We hope to see you all again next year!"
