Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Jeane L. Hughes

Jeane L. (Figmaka) Hughes, age 87, passed away on Thursday, May 2, 2019, at Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital, in Glasgow, Mont.

Funeral services will be held at the First Lutheran Church on Thursday, May 9, at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery.

She was born on April 27, 1932, to Gertrude (Vegge) Figmaka and Stephan Figmaka. She grew up on the Figmaka farm south of Glasgow. She graduated from Glasgow High School in 1950.

She married Donald "Bud" Hughes on Oct. 6, 1951, in Glasgow. Their first child, Barbara, was born in 1953 and in 1955 their son Mitch was born.

Jeane began her paralegal career working for Thomas Dignan. She also worked for Larry Miyasato and County Attorney Gordon White, until Gordon retired, at which time she went to work at the Clerk of Court's Office, where she worked until retirement.

Jeane loved spring and couldn't wait to get outside and get her hands in the dirt. She had a green thumb and had many beautiful flowers in the front yard and at the farm. As summer turned to fall, she put her gardening tools away and set up her sewing machine. She loved to quilt. She really enjoyed making baby quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I think they all have several of her quilts.

Jeane was the official pie maker of the family. It didn't matter what holiday it was, she always made the pies. Her apple pie was the best we ever had and was always requested by many who had tried it.

Jeane was a strong believer in education and she was particularly proud of all her grandchildren as they all received college degrees.

Jeane was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and one sister, Shirley Lacy.

Jeane is survived by her daughter Barbara Gallagher, of Glasgow; son Mitch (Mary) Hughes, of Glasgow; four grandchildren, Steven (Janell) Wieder, of Billings, Mont., Tammy (Jordan) Lanning, of Boise, Idaho, Karissa (Dominick) Keenan, of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Dylan (Jami Johnson) Hughes, of Glasgow; three great-grandchildren, Gabe and Liam Wieder and Dani Jo Lanning; as well as one brother, Dennis (Sally) Figmaka.
