Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

World Renowned Violinist and Associate Visit Prairie Ridge and Valley View Home

International violinist Jack Glatzer, along with his associate, Dr. Margaret Hereld, delighted residents and staff at both Prairie Ridge and Valley View Home on Oct. 31. A total of 18 Head Start children, who were visiting Prairie Ridge, also had the opportunity to interact with the duo and learn about music.

Glatzer and Hereld spent approximately two weeks touring throughout Montana stopping at various facilities that target the elderly population, including nursing and assisted homes. According to Kathy Johnson, activity director at Prairie Ridge, Glatzer had contacted Prairie Ridge after locating the facility online and asked if the staff and residents would be interested in hosting them. "We were so happy that he reached out, that I looped Hayley Young [activity director at Valley View Home] in to see if there would be an interest. Hayley jumped on board, and really got the ball rolling. The most wonderful part of all of this was we were able to accommodate him," said Johnson.

Eighteen Head Start children also received a special surprise while visiting residents at Prairie Ridge as they were able to not only listen to Glatzer play, but also interact with him. "His eyes and heart filled up with warmth when I asked if it was alright for the Head Start Children to participate," said Johnson, continuing, "The children were just mesmerized by him. They would provide an animal sound and Glatzer would replicate the sound on his violin. He was so amazing with the little kids. We are so appreciative he was willing to share his time."

According to Glatzer's website, his particular interest is the unaccompanied repertoire for the violin. He is celebrated for his interpretations of Bach, Paganini and Bartok. In addition to his concert career, he has been recognized as a teacher, both in master classes and in lecture recitals. He has played on every continent and in over 50 countries, including some of the world's most prestigious venues including the National Arts Center, the Sydney Opera House and the Hong Kong Arts Center.

Both Johnson and Young are appreciative of Glatzer thinking of Glasgow and making his way to this part of the state. "Music is always a hit with residents," said Young. "Both residents and staff enjoyed being able to see international musicians put on a performance." Johnson echoed the appreciation and sentiment stating, "Everyone was thrilled to see Jack and Margaret. They were very wonderful to staff, residents and children."
