Dr. Anne Williams to Retire from FMDH

After 32 years working as a general surgeon at Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital, Dr. Anne Williams has announced her retirement. Her dedication and achievements will not be forgotten.

A farewell party will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, in the FMDH lower level conference room. All friends, coworkers, and well-wishers are welcome to attend.

Dr. Williams came to Glasgow in 1986 right out of residency. The fifth graduating woman surgeon from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, she was the first of those to work as an active surgeon, as the other women entered the education field.

After graduating, Dr. Williams was looking to practice in a smaller town and facility where she could get to know her patients. She toured different facilities in Montana and decided Glasgow would be the perfect fit. Dr. Williams dove in head first, working in the ER and even conducting sports physicals in the Glasgow Clinic. She attributes much of her success to the dedication of the practitioners of FMDH who mentored her early years.

She maintained an independent clinic within FMDH until 2008 and then became part of Hi-Line General Surgery. There have been many changes and office moves during her tenure at FMDH, but her level of care and devotion to our community has remained unwavering.

"I enjoyed working in a place where the people have a common-sense attitude and understanding of the world," Dr. Williams said, "It has been such a joy to live and work in northeastern Montana."

Dr. Williams says after retiring she is going to take a few months to regroup and see where she wants to go from there. She has a couple knitting and crocheting projects to finish, and is learning how to weave as well.
