Roy P. Christenson

Roy P. Christenson, 87, passed away from natural causes on Sunday, April 19, 2015, at Northern Montana Care Center in Havre, Mont.

Cremation has taken place, and memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 1, at 1st Congregational Church, 629 2nd Ave N in Glasgow with Pastor Rick Thompson officiating.

He was born on May 11, 1927, in Hanks, N.D., to Peter and Esther (Sovold) Christenson, and was raised on the family farm outside of Hanks. Following his school years, he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and served in the Korean War until he was honorably discharged from the service. Following his return home, he moved to Glasgow and worked for a short time for Elmer Johnson Plumbing before purchasing the Buckhorn Bar in Wheeler, and he relocated to Wheeler. He remained in Wheeler for several years, and while there began fishing commercially on Fort Peck Lake. He also began working as a plumber during the off season. Eventually, he stopped fishing commercially, and simply operated his thriving plumbing business, which was located in Nashua. He retired from plumbing, and relocated to Idaho Falls, Idaho, for a short time. Making his way back to Montana, he then moved to Fort Benton, where he remained for just a couple of years. He moved on to settle in Big Sandy for a number of years to be closer to his sons and grandchildren, and spent his last three years in Havre.

He enjoyed playing cribbage and pinochle, hunting, fishing, golfing, watching older comedy shows and westerns, and reading his aviation magazines and war history books. He loved playing with his grandchildren.

Roy was preceded in death by one sister, Evelyn Herness; and two brothers, Paul and Gordon Christenson.

Survivors include two sons, Peter Christenson and his wife, Sarah, and Jason (Laci Keller) Christenson, all of Havre; three grandchildren, Gavin and Tryg Christenson and Emerald Tinsley; four siblings, Ellavon Weber of Phoenix, Ariz., Phyllis Newton and her husband, Stan, and Dale Christenson and his wife, Darla, all of Billings, and David Christenson and his wife, Cindy, of Glasgow; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
