Senator Daines Tours Eastern Montana

Senator Steve Daines made a stop in Glasgow while on his tour of eastern Montana. Glasgow marked the Senator’s second stop on a 650 mile long tour that will undertake in three days. After flying into Malta on Oct. 4 to begin his tour, Glasgow was the second stop out of the 15 planned destinations.

The Senator took time to address a crowd of 20 local leaders, business owners, ranchers and members of the press at the event hosted by Farm Equipment Sales. The Senator addressed local concerns on issues as well as national ones.

The Senator met with city officials and county commissioners to discuss how he will work with them to solve the sticky situation that has become of our levy south of town. Citing that there were some survey errors made, he aims to work with our local government to help forge a plan to move forward and hold the federal government accountable for their mistakes. Daines went further to state that he wants to make sure we are protected, particularly as far as private property rights and that our concerns over flood insurance rate will be addressed as well.

He spoke about a bill he is working on that would give local governments more control over land usage. The common sense bill deals with issues and concerns over such things as our veterans monument, and prevent federal land grabs.

Daines spoke about the US beef ban in China, and how the 13-year long ban is looking like it will be finally lifted. The Senator recently went to China with two other members of the senate and two members of congress. Daines cited he has experience with how the Chinese market works, as he had spent five years there while employed by Proctor and Gamble. With the ban lifted he expects to see US beef shipped to China sometime next year.

He also took time to address other concerns ranging from free roaming bison, the Affordable Health Care, and water concerns.

The Senator will continue his tour with his next stop being in Scobey, followed by Westby, Plentywood and Culbertson on Tuesday. Wednesday tour stops include Sidney, Glendive, Wibaux, Baker. Ekalaka, Broads, and Ashland will be the final three stops on Thursday.
