Celebrating On New Year's Eve? Free Rides Home Offered

New Year’s Eve is a time of fun and celebration. Make sure you don’t start your year out with a DUI or in an accident. If you plan on going out for the night, and maybe your designated driver decided to have more than a few beers, don’t take the keys in your hands.

Valley County Sheriff Glen Meier said that a tradition that has been going on for around a decade will continue. Valley County Sheriff Search and Rescue and two local wrecking companies will pick you up and take you home for free. The idea is to make sure everyone has a safe holiday. Last year 166 rides were given to people, free of charge.

“It’s about keeping people safe this time of year,” Meier said. “If you feel like you need a ride home, call these people.”

You can reach Chris Moore, from Thompson and Sons Towing at 263-2689. Doug Cook from Glenn’s Automotive will be picking up people in the Fort Peck and Nashua areas, and you can call him at 263-1249. Volunteers from the search and rescue team are Rob Brunelle at 263-7621, Josh at 263-8726, or Tyler at 839-6546.

Meier said that these individuals are usually parked around town to help pick up passengers. While kids underage can also call for a free ride, Meier said he couldn’t guarantee they wouldn’t get a minor in possession charge.

Local bars usually post flyers with the numbers available for people who might need a ride.
