Nelsons Sell Simmental-Angus Bulls At Annual Stockyards Events

The Nelson family, Floyd and Deanna Nelson and Don and Sheila Nelson, held their annual bull production sale on May 2 at the Glasgow Stockyards with Ed Hinton as auctioneer. Their bulls are black and red Simmental/Angus composites.

The 71 bulls averaged $2,615. The top 10 sold for an average of $3,650.

The six top bulls all sold for $3,750. Four of them were red, three sired by the Red Angus bull Code Red.

Travis Nelson of Richland took home three of these top bulls. Lot 62, a half Simmental/half Red Angus Code Red bull, had an 88-pound birthweight. His ratios were weaning weight 112 and yearling weight 118. He had a 205-day adjusted weight of 733 pounds and a 365-day adjusted weight of 1,325 pounds.

Lot 65, a 3/8 Simmental-5/8 Red Angus Beef Maker bull, had a weaning weight ratio of 111 and yearling weight ratio of 118. He had a 205 weight of 726 pounds and a 365 weight of 1,318.

Lot 88 was another Code Red half Simmental/half Red Angus. His ratios were weaning weight 107 and yearling weight 112. The 205 was 703; the 365 was 1,251.

The last Code Red half-Simmental among the top bulls, Lot 54, which sold to Mark Rafferty of Dillon, had a birthweight of 80 pounds.

Two black bulls were among the top six. Lot 3 was bought by Baldwin Ranch of Richey. This was a Dual Focus son out of a 2-year-old heifer. His ratios were weaning weight 113 and yearling weight 113, with a 205 of 742 pounds and a 365 of 1,268 pounds.

Lot 9, by the Angus sire New Standard, went to Wittmayer Grazing of Glasgow.

The volume buyers of the Nelson sale were Wittmayer Grazing with 15 black bulls and Cornwell Ranch of Glasgow with 9 red bulls.
