Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Walt McLean

Walt McLean, 69, of Glasgow, Mont., passed away at home on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024.

A celebration of his life will be held at Fort Peck VFW Post 3107 at 11 a.m., on Thursday, Oct. 31.

He was born Dec. 23, 1954, in Riverside, Calif., to John McLean and Virginia Hanson. Walt was the middle child in a family of nine. His father was in the Air force so growing up, the family moved a lot. His mother was diagnosed with MS and became unable to walk, so when his older sister got married Walt opted to quit school and take care of his mother.

Walt joined the Army at the age of 17 and was stationed in Germany. Walt was married twice. He and his first wife, Pam, had daughter, Brandy. Later son, Sam, was born in Glasgow. Though he did not have a major part in their upbringing he did love them and was very proud of both of them.

Walt worked at many different jobs but he liked cooking the most. Walt became a life-time member of the VFW in Glasgow and was very proud of the service it provided and the membership. Of the many stations in life that Walt held, the one he did the best was being a brother and a friend and that covered not only the family , but just about everyone he met.

The world will not be the same without him but Walt made it a little better place.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Agnes; and brothers David and Mike.

Walt is survived by his daughter, Brandy, of Wisconsin; son Sam, of Poplar, Mont.; sisters Julia, of New York, and Donna, of Illinois; brothers Jim, of Colorado, and Robert, of Glasgow; and many nieces and nephews.

Condolences may be left online for the family at bellmortuarymontana.com.
