Law Enforcement Report

For the week of April 3 through April 8 there were 11 motor vehicle stops and two reports of loose dogs.

For the week of April 10 through 15, there were eight motor vehicle stops, one report of a loose dog, and two reports of loose livestock.

Monday, April 3

1640 – An abandoned vehicle was reported. It is off the road and not a hazard, however there is no one around the vehicle.

2054 – Officer advised he is checking out a vehicle that is blocking the alleyway. There is beer in the center console but no one in the vehicle. The officer will keep an eye on the vehicle in case the registered owner goes back to the vehicle.

Tuesday, April 4

1101 – Caller advised the location was plowed the other day. They didn’t do the edges, so they are deep. The caller said that you almost can’t have two trucks on the road going by each other as it is so narrow. The caller wanted the road department notified. MT DOT in Glasgow was notified and provided them the information.

1503 – Reporting party called in a possible roll up door or a big piece of metal in the westbound lane of US 2. She said she already ran it over and doesn’t want anyone else to. MT DOT was notified. At 1507, another party called to report the same. She stated it looks like a piece of metal siding. At 1517, deputy advised MT DOT showed up and they were able to move it off the road but will have to come back tomorrow to pick the metal up.

1642 – Caller reported there’s a fence that’s all tore up. A deputy was notified who will head that way to check on it.

1644 – An employee called stating they just had a female leave the store. The other cashier advised the woman is intoxicated and has children in the vehicle. A description of the vehicle was provided, but could not get a plate number. A name of the female was provided. At 1703, officer advised the vehicle hasn’t made it home but will keep an eye out.

1719 – Reporting party called to state he ran out of gas just west of the bowling alley. His vehicle is out of the driving lane and off the road. He has a friend on the way with a gas can. He then stated he is walking to town with his dog but then later clarified he is just walking with his dog. The hope is to have the vehicle moved within the hour. Caller is letting dispatch know so the vehicle is not towed.

1730 – Caller said she was headed westbound on US 2. A black semi trailer was headed eastbound and trying to turn north by Hinsdale when it swerved into the caller and flipped her off. She didn’t get a plate number and didn’t want to sign a complaint. She said she reported it because the driver ticked her off.

1958 – An anonymous caller reported a male parks a semi on the 800 block of 4th Ave N. She said this happens all the time and it’s really loud. She was wondering if they’re even allowed to drive semis in the residential area. The caller didn’t want to give their name or speak with an officer.

Wednesday, April 5

1432 – Reporting party called stating he just took a call from the office manager and she has a wounded deer by her office. The caller didn’t know exactly where by her office so provided a phone number to the office manager to obtain further information.

Thursday, April 6

0525 – Reporting party called stating there is an injured deer laying in the middle of the eastbound lanes on US Highway 2. At 0533, another complainant called about the deer. They were notified a deputy was on their way to deal with it. A deputy was notified who reported at 0535 that the deer has been dispatched and moved to the north side of the road. 0923 – An abandoned vehicle was reported. When the plate was ran it came back as stolen. The officer advised he got a hold of the tow company. The officer will come get the vehicle and take it to the GPD office so it can be processed. At 1013, officer advised the vehicle will be returned to the owners.

1023 – Deputy advised there’s a Ford Explorer in the ditch. MHP has marked the vehicle and deputy notified dispatch in case there is other calls about it.

1848 – A fire/explosion was reported. Deputy advised at 1844 to disregard calling BNSF as a call has previously come in to call BNSF to stop trains. At 1900, fire command requested power company be called and they would be getting the next available technician out there as soon as possible. Manager also requested fire and ambulance for a possible explosion that took place.

Friday, April 7

0723 – Reporting party called stating she believes she has been scammed. She said this person had been emailing her and she went out to purchase three to four gift cards for $500 a piece, then gave this information off the cards to an agent. They then were supposed to send her a check for $3,000 via FedEx. She has now been notified that there was an accident and a fire, they now want her to pay them more money. Dispatch advised it was a scam. Dispatch asked the caller if any personal information was exchanged and she stated no, but she has all the emails, names and phone numbers for the officer. Later, a deputy met with the reporting party.

0744 – Reporting party called in stating a pick up truck has hazard lights on. The caller was going to stop but it didn’t look right so she kept going. At 0803, a deputy advised the transmission went out on the vehicle and she will go to try and help him get the vehicle off the road.

1118 – MHP Dispatch called requesting an officer to respond, as a Trooper received a report of a vehicle that has broken down. The trooper is too far east at this time and would like a deputy to help. There was no description of the vehicle and no further information. At 1119, the trooper advised he is on the scene.

1711 – Reporting party called and said that he stays in town every week while on business and his company vehicle has damage to the back driver-side quarter panel. He thinks it happened while at the hotel. He said he just noticed the damage a couple of days ago while his vehicle was getting an oil change. He said he’s not really sure when the damage happened or where the vehicle was parked when it happened. The reporting party said his boss required him to make the report.

2009 – Reporting party called to report her pickup was left on the side of the road a couple of days ago due to a flat tire. She couldn’t remember the plate number but said she was notified it has been marked with orange and wanted to know how long she had to move it. She stated since the tire is in a difficult position to change she left the truck there and went into work. She had to work all day that day and the next but she has tomorrow off and asked if the truck can be towed. The reporting party stated she will have someone help her tomorrow afternoon sometime but the vehicle will be moved by that evening.

2159 – Reporting party stated a very intoxicated male was in the store trying to steal stuff, used the bathroom indecently, leaving the door open, and is now digging through the dumpster. At 2211, an officer found the subject with beer in his pocket and will confirm that is what was taken. A PBT of 0.263 was logged.

2314 – Reporting party stated a four-door car with a smashed back end, driving ahead of them, might be intoxicated. A deputy was notified. The deputies are all out of position and asked for the city to look into it. The officer patrolled up to MM 12 and was unable to locate.

Saturday, April 8

0832 – A male walked into the lobby and turned in a two-tone brown wallet. A message was left for the person who’s license is in the wallet. At 1103, the owner of the wallet called back into dispatch and described the wallet. He will get it in about 20 minutes.

2151 – Reporting party stated a white minivan ran into a parked car then backed up and hit it again. She believes the driver is intoxicated. The description of the vehicle was provided. At 2227, the officer was able to get ahold of the registered owner of the vehicle that was hit for the insurance information.

Monday, April 10

1513 – An employee called wanting someone to come and remove a male from the business. The individual is not to be in there except for asking them to call Transit for him, which has already been done today. The male is talking back and refuses to leave when asked. They would like an officer to come and get him out of the building.

1645 – Caller stated he locked himself out of his vehicle. Phone numbers for locksmiths were provided.

1939 – Caller reported he has buildings and equipment about a mile south of the Milk River along Hwy 117. He stated there’s a man on a pedal bike in the middle of a muddy field and doesn’t know what he is dong out there. A description of the male was provided. At 1948, a deputy advised he can see the guy in the field. The deputy also stated the man can hear him but he keeps walking onto the private property. The deputy requested another deputy and stated he will walk to the male on foot. The suspect got on the levy.

2043 – Deputy advised there’s a vehicle out of the driving lane at US 2 and the Landfill Road. The vehicle has its hazards on and only one headlight. At 2047 another deputy advised was not able to locate the vehicle, but a deer is dead and on the south side of the road.

Tuesday, April 11

0634 – Reporting party called stating there is a dead deer in the westbound lane of US Highway 2 just past the curve where the dinosaurs are. Deputy was notified who later advised the antelope has been moved. MT DOT was notified.

0954 – MT DOT advised at the end of the highway there is a cow stuck in the snow bank that needs to be moved as it is on the right away.

1034 – Reporting party called stating there is a middle-aged male cleaning out a vehicle. She finds it curious, as he is folding blankets, music is going and he is in the parking lot of the school. She would like the officer to check it out. It was determined the subject works there.

1102 – There is an antelope on the south side of the road and it has a broken back but still alive. At 1149, deputy advised the deer was already dead when she arrived but will continue looking in case there is another one that is still alive.

1417 – A call was received from the National Weather Service requesting an officer out to Nashua by the Milk River as they have a report of an ice jam and would like confirmation. At 0710, on April 12, deputy advised the location was checked and it looks like it has broken up some and the water has gone down.

1525 – Information was received regarding some road closures in the county, Cherry Valley Road off of MT Hwy 24N at the low water bypass, also Frazer/Richland Road is closed. All of these closings are due to high water.

1723 – Caller reported that someone in a small car hit some water on the highway and their vehicle went off to the south side of the road. It is now in a field sitting in some water. Later another caller reported a woman in a red car hydroplaned. Her vehicle was sitting in some water so a male pulled her vehicle out of the water so the driver could get out. The woman is not injured and the callers stated the woman couldn’t make it to the highway because of the water. She also said vehicles are not slowing down for the water. Helena DOT was notified to put signs up advising of the water on the highway.

1846 – Deputy advised he just received a report of a car that hydroplaned and went into the ditch. He didn’t have any further information.

1901 – Reporting party called to state a suburban hydroplaned and went off the south side of the highway by the Elevator. She didn’t believe there are any injuries because people are walking around. She also stated someone is trying to pull them out. She believes that the road should be closed. Deputy was notified who requested that DOT be advised. A deputy later reported there doesn’t appear to be any damage to the vehicle besides the intake filled up with water.

2114 – Caller said they just drove by the Kintyre Elevator and there’s lot of deep water on the road. Dispatch asked if there were any signs advising of the water and there isn’t. She then spotted a sign while on the phone.

2350 – Reporting party said a woman from Frazer just got out of the hospital and asked him to take her home. So he did and now she is refusing to get out of his vehicle. He wants either a deputy or a tribal officer to come and get her out of the vehicle. She won’t get out and is demanding that he take her to Wolf Point. RCSO was called. At 0009 the next day, the reporting party said the woman voluntarily left his vehicle as he told her she would get a disorderly conduct ticket if she didn’t get out by the time the deputy got there. She finally said she’d get out if he’d take her to her grandmother’s house which the reporting party did and she cleared of his vehicle.

Wednesday, April 12

0324 – Reporting party called and said about 40 feet from the address is a buried gas line (signed and yellow flagged) that is underwater and something is bubbling up in that area. He also said there was a bridge about 100 feet from Skylark Road which has washed away. Deputy and MDU was notified, LongRun fire was dispatched. It was determined there was a gas leak.

0840 – Reporting party called stating there is a truck with a flat tire and has been parked in the middle of the street now for two and a half weeks. It was determined the transmission went out of it and she is working to get it moved.

1001 – Deputy advised about 100 yards past MM 512 on the south side of the road in the ditch is an antelope with a broken leg. The deputy pulled the antelope closer to the road for MT DOT to see it. MT DOT was contacted.

38 – Officer advised he is blocking traffic while they unblock the manhole.

Thursday, April 13

0555 – Reporting party stated he hit a deer. The deer is dead and he is going to pull it off the highway. The vehicle is driveable but he’s sure there’s more than $1,000 in damage. The reporting party stated he was able to pull the right fender away from the tire so he will be able to continue home. The deer has been pulled off the road. DOT was contacted regarding the deer.

1306 – Caller requested an officer at his address for a disturbance. He wishes for his brother to be removed from the premises. The brother doesn’t have any weapons and has not struck the reporting party. There is no one else there at the residence and the brother does not have a vehicle that operates.

1547 – A male reported individuals driving through an area which is currently flooded. He stated it has been a parade of individuals driving down the road and they have been making waves through the water ever since it flooded. The reporting party is concerned about the road being torn up and won’t be passable. The caller spoke with the county about putting a “Road Closed” sign up but he is not sure if that happened. There are currently two pickups at the Ball Pit and he said about four to six vehicles turned around when they saw they weren’t capable of getting through but others are still making their way through. The reporting party is wondering if there is something the sheriff’s office can do. At 1555, the deputy advised the vehicles are out and advised individuals not to be driving on the road anymore as it is flooded. At 1559, the County Road Department advised they put signs out there about three hours ago so it was possible someone took them. They will go back and put up some more signs.

2230 – Caller reported a male left with two room keys. He is with his girlfriend. She would like extra patrols around the area. The keys are actual metal keys and are for inside rooms. She let her staff know about it.

2312 – Reporting party stated in the alley it sounds like people fighting and yelling. She said it sounds like two females and one male. An officer patrolled the alley both ways from the residence and did not see or hear anything also did not see tracks in the mud. The area will be patrolled.

Friday, April 14

0512 – Two callers reporting being woken up by a crew working on the rail bridge in town. The first caller has reported this several times as it wakes up his whole family. The second caller was okay with it when notified it was a crew working.

1048 – Reporting party called stating he and his kids were driving through the intersection and thougt they heard someone yelling “help.” He said they all heard the same thing. He stopped and went to the closest residence there. No one answered the door but when he walked away someone let a dog out there. Officer advised he spoke to a gentleman and the male did not hear anything like that but it might have been a bird. There is a pretty loud bird there just a little while ago. The officer will continue to look around the area.

1319 – Reporting party called in stating people keep parking by her garage. She has plumbers and carpenters there now who are working. Now they have problems getting where they need to be back there. She would like an officer to come and tell them to move and not park there. At 1340, officer advised the vehicle was gone when he got there. He told the reporting party he would try to get back to figure out who it was that was parking in front of her garage. He also stated it is private parking so she can have it towed if she wants.

1618 – Reporting party called in stating there are two men and a dog on her property. She said they are out of their vehicles walking around. They have gone to her neighbor’s place also. A description of the men and dog were provided. They have binoculars but doesn’t see any weapons. She also have cameras so the officer can look at the video if they wan. At 1706, deputy advised was not able to locate the vehicles that were trespassing.

2100 – Caller reporting her upstairs neighbors are being loud. Officer spoke to the neighbor who stated it was her three year old son playing and she will try to keep it down.

2258 – Caller reported a vehicle in the middle of the water on Tampico Road where it is closed off. He said there is a pick up with people in it out there. Deputy will assess the scene to see if any medical is needed. Deputy arrived on scene and did not see the vehicle anywhere.

Saturday, April 15

0302 – Caller reported she is dispatching a tow for a vehicle and the tow company wouldn’t tow without clearance from dispatch. There is lower front end damage to the van but did not know what was hit. Dispatch called the tow company who said he is waiting on approval from the insurance company. It was later determined a large bird, possibly an eagle was hit. It pierced the radiator. The company is en route to pick up the vehicle while the deputy is bringing the driver to the hotel.

0836 – Caller reported an injured deer that has been at the location for at least three hours. It hasn’t moved on and it appears to have an injured front leg that it has been carrying. Called Fish and Game but FWP isn’t close to town due to opening season for turkeys. At 0849, officer called to confirm the location. He stated he has driven all over the area and can not locate the deer. Officer has permission from FWP to dispatch the deer if it is found and/or reported again. The officer will continue to look in the area for a short time longer but as of now the deer is not able to be located.
