Glasgow residents were invited to meet and question the educators who have applied for the position of principal of Glasgow High School. The three candidates, Linda Hudyma, Stephen Pinsoneault and Shawnda Zahara-Harris, rotated through sessions with teachers, administrators, the school board and community members.

As Glasgow moves ahead on a city Growth Policy, a decision must be made about the type of planning board the City Council wants. The planning board will be the official liaison between the City Council and the consultants working on the Growth Policy.

The rest of Montana learned that the sixth-graders are not to be messed with. They took second place in the Cardinal Classic in Billings, first in the JJMT, third in the Wolf Point Invitational and the top spot again at the Malta Swishfest. The team included coach Matt Miller, Ben Miller, Kaden Fossum, Brett Glaser, Cade Myrick, Kendal Liebelt, Blaine Myrick, Dillon Godwin, Kadin Chatten Colton Pewitt, Merlin McKean, Jordan Billingsley and Ellis McKean.

With spring running late and the high being in the 40s for a chilly Glasgow Invitational on Saturday, Glasgow had at least one representative in the top six in 30 of the 34 events. Amy Breigenzer and Julia Kolstad placed second and third in the 100-meter dash. Debra Greibel took gold in both the 200 and the 100 hurdles. Bryan Larson and Lane Herbert took fourth and sixth in the 100, respectively. Chase Fossum took second in the 200.

April 9, 1998

Voters were asked for mill levies in five of the six county school districts and approved all of them by large margins. Only Glasgow had no levy request. Valley County Superintendent of Schools Donna Kloker said she was pleased that voters got out and supported their schools.

The Glasgow City Council opened sealed bids on April 6 for three projects, two water main replacements and sidewalk improvements on Cemetery Road. For replacement of a water main on Fifth Avenue South and Second Avenue South. Two bids were opened for the Cemetery Road sidewalk improvement.

Dena Knapp won a new Geo Metro automobile on Aug. 2 at the Wadopana bingo game in Wolf Point.

Glasgow Cross Country and Track coach Mark Yoakam, who was named to the Montana Coaches Hall of Fame last spring, has been honored by Dickinson State University. A 1973 graduate of DSU, he is scheduled to be honored for the Outstanding Achievement Award.

The Glasgow Invitational track meet was held with 30 teams participating. The Glasgow boys finished in first on the strength of three firsts in the shot put, discuss and the 1660 relay; and five seconds in the pole vault, shot put, 400 run, 800 run and the 1600 run. The girls finished third behind Sidney and Malta. The girls were led by firsts in the 400 run, 800 run and the 1600 run and one second in the 1600 relay.

Katie Hoffman, daughter of Dr. Ken and Kathy Hoffman, and granddaughter of Imelda Moran, of Glasgow, was chosen to participate in the NBC Junior Girls' Tour for Basketball and will travel to Great Britain.

April 12, 1973

Coin Flip Solves Vote Stalemate – Monday night's official canvas of the voting in last Tuesday's election did nothing to elevate the stalemate between south side councilmen Alfred Quiring and James Kruzich. The two aldermen took it upon themselves and saved fellow council members and Mayor Jim Christinson the embarrassment of choosing between them. Following the vote canvas, when it was determined each man received 163 votes, the men retired privately with City Clerk Mrs. Ramona Tow and resolved the issue with a coin toss. The coin turned up heads, Kruzich will serve the two year term on the Council and Quiring ended his four years effective May 7.

Glasgow City Council in a special session on Monday evening sold the authorized $75,000 in general obligation necessary to match federal funds for the city's new $150,000 swimming pool at pubic auction to representatives of the two Glasgow banks.

The Board of County Commissioners has served notice of intention to create Refuse Disposal District No. 1, consisting of that portion of the present Glasgow City-County Planning Board jurisdictional area located outside of incorporated limits of the City of Glasgow.

The Glasgow Senior High School drama team captured the Class A Championship honors at the sate meet in Missoula over the weekend. The speech team brought back the third place Class A trophy. Jane Pidwerbecki received the best character actress medal for her appearance in "Curse You, Jack Dalton." Miss Piedwerbecki also returned with fifth place in serious solo. Dorothy Wesen won the first place medal in expository speaking. In drama, Dave Latimer and Kirk Hetrick placed second in serious duo. Others who contributed points were Cengiz Bulut, pantomime; Jay Brwnson and Ron Hauge, humorous solo; Patsy Hawyard and Dan Cobb, humorous duo; and Dana Feda and Jack Doty, serious solo.

Head basketball coach Ron Gore has resigned as cage pilot for the Glasgow Scotties, ending a 16-year coaching career. GHS Athletic Director Dan Freund said that a number of applicants for the top baseball coaching job have been received and are being evaluated.

Thursday, April 8, 1948

Bids are scheduled to be opened in Great Falls, April 19, for the new St. Raphael's parochial school and social center. The structure's estimated cost is $120,000. The L-shaped, two-story building will be located on Third Avenue North adjoining the parish rectory and church.

Taking first place in all events except one, Glasgow Future Farmers of America won the sweepstakes in competition at the Milk River district convention in the high school. Glasgow was host to 75 FFA members and their chapter advisors. Gerald Stenland, of the Glasgow High School, will represent the Milk River District in the state public speaking contest at the Future Farmers of America convention held in Bozeman.

Officers of the Valley County American Red Cross chapter reported this week that Robert S. Cotton has donated 20 sacks of potatoes to the chapter. The potatoes have been distributed by the local chapter. Officers said this "very substantial" gift was appreciated and that good use has been made of the potatoes.

Nels Peterson, whose name was written in by voters at the Nashua district school election Saturday was elected trustee in an unanticipated contest. He defeated H.M. Priest, 30 to 27. A special levy of 17 mills was approved almost unanimously 51 to 6.

Mrs. Hugo Hansen was elected president of the Hinsdale Woman's club at it annual election meeting at the home of Mrs. E.F Simmons.
