Frazer Boys Season Comes to an End

Frazer's boys basketball team closed out the season at the District 3C Basketball Tournament in Glasgow this past weekend with two losses, posting a 0-19 record this year. Frazer lost their opening round matchup 66-21 to Nashua last Wednesday. Friday they dropped an 80-38 contest to the Dodson Coyotes in loser-out action.

Frazer fell behind 19-5 in their opening quarter against Nashua and were outscored 27-3 in the second. The Bearcubs faced a 55-15 deficit heading into the final eight minutes where they were outpaced 11-6.

Jarvis GoodBird led the Bearcubs with 14 points, hitting four from three-point land. Zayden Hentges hit a trey and Ty Fourstar and Travis Long both hit a field goal. Frazer shot 17 percent from the court. They were afforded no bonus shots by Nashua.

The loss moved the Bearcubs to loser-out action Friday where they faced the Coyotes.

Head coach Myron Jackson made a few lineup changes, starting Hentges and Smoker to put as much defensive pressure on the Coyotes' ballhandlers as they could, noting he also wanted to get the two more playing time since they have put the work in this season.

Even with the added defensive pressure, the Bearcubs found themselves down 23-15 after one and 47-25 at the half. Beston hit the first 7 for Frazer but the team also fan into foul trouble early, giving Dodson 17 chances at the line.

A slow offensive third for Frazer saw them put up 3 points while Dodson added 20 to the scoreboard. Frazer was outscored 13-10 in the final eight minutes. Frazer cleaned up their fouls in the second, allowing the Coyotes only five bonus shots after the intermission.

Frazer shot 22.7 percent from the court and 33.3 percent at the line on three free throws. Beston scored 19 with two treys and a 1-for-1 showing at the line. Fourstar and Long both hit two from downtown for 6 points and Hentges hit one try. Smoker and Fox both scored a bucket.

Frazer was called for 20 fouls while Dodson had 12 infractions. Long and GoodBird fouled out. Beston drew four whistles and Smoker three. Fourstar, Fox and Hentges had one foul each.

Dodson had 56 rebounds and Frazer grabbed 47 boards. Beston led the team with 14 followed by Fox with eight and Fourstar with seven. Long had three rebounds, GoodBird two, and Hentges one. Twelve rebounds were unattributed. Fourstar and GoodBird each had two assists with one going unattributed.

Frazer had 28 turnovers with nine steals while Dodson had 17 giveaways and 16 steals. Smoker, Fourstar, Long and Beston each had two takeaways and GoodBird one steal.

Frazer will not lose any players to graduation for next season.

"Yes, it was a fun season," said coach M. Jackson. "We may not have won any games but all the kids improved a bunch."
