Scottie Girls Win Two To Close Out Regular Season

Glasgow's girls basketball team finished their regular season with two conference wins, improving their record to 3-5, 3-15 overall. The Scotties coasted to a 57-15 home victory over the Harlem Wildcats Friday for Senior Night. Saturday they traveled to Poplar where they won 61-53, powered by an 82 percent performance at the free throw line.

The Scotties poured in 17 points in the first quarter against Harlem while holding the visitors to 4 points. Glasgow led 32-6 at the half and 41-12 after three quarters of play. The Scotties held the Wildcats to 3 in the last eight minutes while putting up another 16 points on the home side of the scoreboard.

Mayzie Yoakam led all scorers with 14 points hitting two three-pointers and 4-of-5 free throws. Carly Nelson added 12, draining both of her bonus shots. Tatum Nyquist and Daley Aune scored 9 each. Piper Johnson hit two buckets and Kyndall Schraner sank 3-of-4 free throws. Tanae Baker, Joely Chappell and Hayden Green scored 2 each. The Scotties shot 76.5 percent from the free throw line.

Both teams were called for 15 fouls, with eight in the second half. Yoakam drew four whistles while Nelson had three fouls and Baker two. Brielle Partridge, Macy Martin, Riley Evenson-Glasoe, Chappell, Aune and Schraner had one foul a piece.

The JV also took the win over Harlem 69-30. Within the first half, the Scotties put up 39 points, courtesy of Piper Johnson and Hayden Green in the first quarter while the second quarter saw Kyndal Schraner, Green and Johnson all sinking baskets. The first half saw a score of 39-11 with Scotties leading and they took this momentum into the second half. Riley Evenson-Glascoe scored four points in the third, and made two of her four attempts at the charity strip in the fourth quarter. Johnson, Gina Page, and Paityn Britzeman all helped rack up the points with two pointers. Ella Eggebrecht also scored two points, while Schraner scored an additional two and Green scored six points. The third quarter saw the Scotties score 18 compared to Harlem's one, and the fourth quarter saw the Scotties score 12 points. The Scotties had more fouls in the game however, with a total of 17 fouls compared to Harlem's 14 fouls.

The Glasgow C Squad won in their match against Harlem 43-17. The Scotties had an early lead in the first half, scoring 15 points in the first quarter and 12 points in the second quarter. The first quarter saw scoring by Lacey White, who scored six points, Haleigh Huntsman who achieved four points and Hannah Holinde who achieve four points plus one successful free throw. The second quarter saw Paityn Britzman score two two-pointers, so did Huntsman. Holinde also achieved two points, making the first half score 27-11. The Scotties kept the momentum in the second half, with free throw attempts. Gina Page made both attempts at the charity line, while Huntsman achieved one of two, and Holinde also had two attempts, making one. Kheyerah Bilger had three attempts at the charity line in the third quarter, but was not successful in hitting the basket. The fourth quarter saw the Scotties slow down, with mostly free throws making up their score. Birtzman had two attempts at the charity line, making one of her two, while also getting a two-pointer. Holinde again had opportunities at the charity line, singing one. Ashlyn White also scored a two pointer. The Scotties held to a total of 14 fouls while Harlem had 11 total in the game.

Glasgow defeated Poplar Saturday in a game where over half their points – 32 of 61 – came at the free throw line. The Scotties led 14-11 after one. They were outscored 21-11 in the second and trailed 44-41 after three quarters. Glasgow held Poplar to 9 in the last eight minutes while scoring 20 with a 10-for-14 showing at the line.

Aune led all scorers with 20 points, hitting 16-of-19 shots at the charity stripe. Yokam added 16 with a trey and sinking all five of her free throws. Nelson hit 5-of-7 free throws on her way to 15 points. Nyquist sank three bonus shots and scored 7 points. Partridge sank 2-of-2 shots at the stripe while Chappell hit 1-of-2 free throws. The Scotties hit 32-of-39 free throws in the game. Poplar hit only 43 percent of their extra shots.

Poplar racked up 29 fouls while Glasgow had 21 infractions. Chappell and Yoakam fouled out. Nyquist drew four whistles and Aune had three fouls. Partridge and Nelson each had two infractions.

The JV game was a close one, however the Scotties took the win 49-46. The first half was a lot of back and forth, with the Scotties scoring 12 in the first quarter and 11 in the second quarter, where the Scotties were behind 23-27 at the half. The second half saw Poplar continue their lead, however Scotties wanted to secure the win. In the fourth quarter, the Scotties had many attempts at free throws, sinking eight, of the 14 attempts. Poplar had 23 team fouls to Glasgow's 11. The Scotties had a total of 39 free throw attempts with 17 made throughout the game, while Poplar only had four attempts and made two.

The Glasgow C Squad played a tight game against Poplar, however squeaked out the win 32-21. The first quarter saw the Scotties scoop up 13 points against Poplar's nine. Abbey Kulczyk, Gina Page, Paityn Britzman, Lacey White and Haleigh Huntsman all contributed to the score. The second quarter saw a little lesser ction with Myli Swindler and Hannah Holinde scoring two points each, while Britzman had two attempts at the charity line, only making one. At the end of the first half, the Scotties were up 18-13. It took a bit for both teams to warm up in the second half as the Scotties only scored four while Poplar scored zero. The fourth quarter was another tight one with the Sotties scoring 10 and Poplar scoring eight. Free throws attempts were in the Scotties favor, as Page had four attempts, Kulczyk and Britzman had two attempts, making one, while Swindler made both attempts. The Scotties had a total eight fouls thruoghout the game while Harlem had 16 fouls.

Glasgow enters the District 2B Tournament in Malta this weekend as the number four seed. The Scotties will face the Harlem Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 16, in the opening round of play.
