Frazer Boys Close Out Regular Season

Frazer’s boys basketball team closed out their regular season without a win, after coming with 4 points of the North Country Mavericks in their final match up. The Bearcubs lost their last three games this past week, falling 68-23 to Scobey at home Feb. 7 before losing 74-28 to Dodson Friday night at home. Frazer gave North Country a run in Saco Saturday night but fell 57-54.

Details on the Scobey game were unavailable.

The Bearcubs fell behind 16-3 after one against the Coyotes Friday night before putting up 15 in the second while the visitors poured in 33 points. Frazer trailed 67-24 after three and were outscored 7-4 in the final eight minutes.

Travis Long led the Bearcubs with 9 points with one three-pointer. Cassius Smoker added 5, also with a trey. Joseph Beston scored 4 and Ty Fourstar hit for 3 with a free throw. Jarvis GoodBird and Zayden Hentges both added a bucket and Christopher Fox drained a bonus shot. The Bearcubs shot 33.3 percent from the line.

Dodson held their fouls to eight, split evenly between the halves, while Frazer was called for 17, six after the break. GoodBird and Long each had four while Fourstar was called for three fouls. Fox and Hentges each drew two whistles and Smoker. Smoker and Beston had one foul a piece.

Saturday night, Frazer fell behind 21-10 after one but surged in the second to trail by 1 point at the half, 27-26. The Bearcubs were outscored 14-6 in the third before lighting up the net with 21 points in the fourth. However, North Country put up 16 in the final eight minutes to squeeze out the 4-point win over Frazer.

Fourstar led all scorers with 23 points, hitting five from downtown. Beston added 11 with a trey and a 4-for-7 performance at the line. Smoker and Fox both scored 6 with Smoker hitting two treys. Long and Hentges added 3 each, both from beyond the arc. GoodBird hit a free throw. The Bearcubs hit 35.7 percent of their bonus shots.

North Country had 15 fouls, while Frazer had 19 calls against them. GoodBird and Fourstar fouled out while Fox and Beston drew four fouls each. Smoker had one infraction.

Frazer enters the postseason with a 0-10, 0-17 overall record. The sixth-seeded Bearcubs will face the third-seeded Nashua Porcupines in the opening round of the District 3-C Tournament in Glasgow. Frazer and Nashua tip off at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, in Scottie Gymnasium.
