Lustre Girls Defeat Frazer

The Lions girls basketball team turned up the offense at home Friday night for a 63-45 victory over the Frazer Bearcubs. Three Lions hit double-digit scoring as Lustre improved their record to 4-4, 5-11 overall.

Lustre established an 18-9 lead in the first eight minutes of play and outscored Frazer 17-7 in the second quarter. The Lions put up another 17 in the third while Frazer hit for 14 to give the home team a 52-30 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. The Bearcubs surged with 15 points in the last eight minutes but the Lions added another 11 to cement their victory.

Alexa Reddig lit up the nets and led all scorers with 31 points, draining 9-of-13 free throws. Grace Brown added 18 with a 4-for-5 showing at the line and Aubri Holzrichter hit two three-pointers on her way to 12 points. Lustre, as a team, shot 59.1 percent from the line.

Frazer had 13 fouls, seven after halftime, while Lustre Christian had 14, split evenly between the halves. Holzrichter fouled out while Brown and Hope Marottek were each called for three fouls. Abby Olfert, Reddig and Hannah Brown drew a whistle a piece.

Lustre closes out their regular season this week with games against North Country and Dodson. The Lions host the Mavericks Friday, Feb. 10. The girls JV teams will play a half-game at 4 p.m. followed by a boys JV half-game at 5 p.m. Girls varsity tips off at 6 p.m. with the boys varsity teams hitting the hardwood at 7:30 p.m. They travel to Dodson Saturday, Feb. 11, for a boys JV half-game at 3 p.m., a girls varsity game at 4 p.m. and a boys varsity game at 5:30 p.m. against the Coyotes.
