Frazer Girls Drop Three Games

Frazer’s girls basketball team holds a 1-6, 4-10 overall record heading into the last week of the season after dropping a non-conference and two conference games last week. The Bearcubs lost a 47-27 home game to the MonDak Thunder Thursday and fell 61-38 in a conference game against Nashua, also at home, the following night. Frazer lost to Lustre Christian on the road Saturday, dropping the conference game 63-45.

The Bearcubs held tight with the Thunder in the first half Thursday, trailing 13-11 at the end of one and 22-18 at the half. A strong third quarter by the visitors propelled them to a 10-point lead, 32-22, heading into the final eight minutes where Frazer was outscored 15-5.

Liana Jackson led the Bearcubs with 9 points, including a three-pointer. Baily Beston hit for 8 and Angeline White scored 5 with a 1-for-2 showing at the line. Audrey Smoker drained a trey and Leigha Smoker added a bucket. Frazer shot 16.7 percent at the free throw line.

The Bearcubs were called for 19 fouls, 13 in the second half, while MonDak drew six whistles, three in each half. Isabelle Even, Angel Nelligan and A. Smoker each drew four whistles while Jackson had three fouls. L. Smoker, Lola Romero, Beston and White had one foul each.

Frazer hosted Nashua Friday night, where the visitors led in all four quarters. The Bearcubs trailed 10-4 at the end of one and were outscored 16-11 in the second. Nashua put up 17 in the third while holding Frazer to 10. The Bearcubs were outpaced 15-13 in the final eight minutes.

A. Smoker put up 14 points, with two downtown shots, to lead the Bearcubs while Nelligan scored 11 with three treys. Beston added 6 points and White scored 3 with a 1-for-2 showing at the line. Even and Jackson scored a bucket each. The Bearcubs shot 14.3 percent from the free throw line.

Nashua held their fouls to seven, five in the second half, while Frazer had 24 infractions, split evenly between the halves. Even, Jackson and Nelligan fouled out. Beston had four fouls, A. Smoker three and L. Smoker and Romero one each.

Saturday night the Bearcubs faced a hot Lions team in Lustre and found themselves down 18-9 after one. Frazer was outscored 17-5 in the second and trailed 52-30 after three quarters. Frazer outpaced Lustre 15-11 in the final eight minutes.

Beston hit for 17 points for Frazer with a 3-for-5 performance at the charity stripe. White and A. Smoker both scored 9 with White hitting 5-of-10 free throws and A. Smoker draining a trey and both her bonus shots. Nelligan scored 5 with a three-pointer and Even also hit a shot from beyond the arc. Jackson added a bucket. Frazer shot 58.8 percent from the line.

Lustre drew 14 fouls, split evenly between the halves, while Frazer had 17 infractions, 11 after the intermission. Even and Nelligan fouled out. White and A. Smoker had two each while Beston drew one whistle.

Frazer hosted Scobey Feb. 7, but scores were unavailable at press time.

The Bearcubs host the Dodson Coyotes Friday, Feb. 10 with the girls varsity teams hitting the court at 5:30 p.m. followed by the boys varsity game at 7 p.m. Frazer travels to Saco Saturday, Feb. 11, to play the North Country girls varsity at 4 p.m. with the boys game following at 5:30 p.m.
