Nashua Girls Pick Up Two Wins

Nashua's girls basketball team picked up two wins this past week to improve their record to 2-4, 5-7 overall. The Porcupines defeated the Lustre Christian Lions 48-33 at home Jan. 19 in a conference matchup then defeated Richey/Lambert 37-30 in a non-conference road game.

The Porcupines built up their lead over the Lions quarter by quarter on Thursday. Nashua held a 9-8 lead at the end of the first and increased that to a 20-15 margin at the half. The Porcupines outscored Lustre 13-9 in the third and 15-9 in the fourth quarter.

Guinevere Abern and Tia Dees each scored 14 for Nashua. Abern hit a trey and went 3-for-4 on free throws while Dees hit 2-of-5 bonus shots. Gracyn Sibley added 9 points with a shot from downtown. Alexis Murdock scored 6, Kaitlyn Miller 3 with a free throw and Madison Harris 2 points.

Lustre was called for 15 fouls, five in the second half, while Nashua had eight after the break, 15 total. Miller fouled out and Harris had three fouls. Murdock and Dees each drew two whistles while Sibley had one foul.

Statistics for the Richey/Lambert game were unavailable.

Nashua hosts North Country Friday, Jan. 27. Girls JV will play a half game at 4 p.m. followed by a boys JV half-game at 5 p.m. Girls varsity tips off at 6 p.m. with the 7:30 p.m. boys varsity game concluding the evening. The Porcupines travel to Dodson Saturday, Jan. 28. The JV boys will tip off at 3 p.m. The varsity girls play at 4:30 p.m. followed by a 6 p.m. varsity boys game.
