Scottie Girls 0-3 On The Week

The Glasgow girls basketball team struggled in their return to the hardwood after the holiday break. The Scotties fell to Malta 48-30 on Color Rush night in Glasgow Tuesday before losing 59-12 in Saco to the North Country Mavericks Thursday. Glasgow took the Scobey Spartans to overtime Friday night in their closest game of the week but lost by a single point, 42-41.

Malta led at the end of each quarter in the Hi-Line matchup. The M-ettes put up 12 in the first while Glasgow scored 8 points. The Scotties hit only two free throws in the second quarter, courtesy Carly Nelson, while Malta padded their score with 11 points. Glasgow trailed by 20 after three quarters, 38-18. The Scotties outscored the M-ettes 12-10 in the final eight minutes but founds themselves far shy of a win.

Nelson led Glasgow with 14 points, including a 4-for-4 show at the charity stripe. Joely Chappell, Daley Aune and Kyndal Schraner each added two baskets and Tatum Nyquist added one shot each from the field.

Glasgow had 11 fouls while Malta had 10. Schraner had three while Partridge and Nelson were called for two fouls each. Chappell, Aune, Mayzie Yoakam and Nyquist drew one whistle a piece.

The Scotties did not find their groove before Thursday's game against the Mavericks. The Class C powerhouse established a 20-0 lead in the first quarter and never let up. Glasgow put up 3 points in the second bu the Mavericks added 10 to the scoreboard. Glasgow was outscored 25-5 in the third quarter while both teams put up 4 points in the final quarter.

Nelson and Nyquist led the Scotties with 3 points – each hit a field goal and a free throw. Aune, Yoakam and Tanae Baker added a basket each.

Glasgow held their fouls to four while North Country had six infractions. Chappell, Nelson, Nyquist and Schraner drew one whistle each.

The Scottie JV team narrowly lost their game, falling by a single bucket in the final quarter 21-19. Glasgow led 2-1 at the end of the first and 9-5 at the half. A strong third quarter by the Mavericks knotted the score at 15 each before the home team won in the fourth.

Yoakam led the team with 6 points followed by Schraner with 4 and Paityn Britzman with 3 points. Riley Evenson-Glasoe, Macy Martin and Hayden Green each added 2 points.

The Scotties hosted the Spartans the following night, falling in overtime in a back-and-forth game. Glasgow trailed 10-7 at the end of one but fought back to lead by a point at the half, 16-15. Scobey outscored Glasgow 10-7 in the third. The Scotties tied it up before the buzzer sounded, sending the game into extra time with a 34-34 score. Scobey edged Glasgow by a single point in overtime for the win.

Aune led the Scotties with 15 points while Nelson added 11 with 5-for-5 shooting at the line. Yoakam added 8 points with a 6-for-6 free throw showing. Schraner hit three free throws while Partridge and Nyquist each hit a shot from the field.

Scobey had 20 fouls while Glasgow held theirs to 17. Aune, Nelson and Yoakam had three each while Chappell, Partridge and Nyquist had two fouls a piece. Baker and Schraner drew a whistle each.

Opheim's Carrie Taylor, captain of the Spartans, scored 5 points with a trey and had three fouls.

In another back-and-forth game, the Scottie JV team won their game 35-32. The Scotties led 7-4 at the end of the first, but trailed 16-11 at the half. They outscored the Spartans 14-4 in the third before Scobey put up 12 in the fourth while holding Glasgow to 10 points.

Green scored 12 points for Glasgow and Schraner added 10. Martin, Yoakam and Paityn Britzman hit for 4 each while Baker hit a free throw.

Opheim's Dylon Allestad, attending school in and playing for Scobey, had 4 points and one foul.

The Scotties return to action Friday, Jan. 13, in Harlem. The Scottie girls varsity will play at 8 p.m. after the boys C squad plays at 3:30 p.m. followed by the boys JV game at 5 p.m and the boys varsity game at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 14, Glasgow hosts Poplar for a full slate of games. Boys C hit the court at noon followed by girls C teams at 1:30 p.m. The JV boys tip off at 3 p.m. followed by the girls JV game at 4:30 p.m. Varsity boys start at 6 p.m. and the girls varsity game concludes the night with a 7:30 p.m. game. All games will be on the NFHS network while KLTZ will broadcast the varsity games.
