Clampitt Wins Bismarck: Girls Place 17th, Boys 25th

Glasgow’s grapplers returned to the mats for two events this past week after the holiday break. The Scotties wrestled the Class A Blue Ponies in Havre on Tuesday then traveled to North Dakota Friday and Saturday for the notoriously difficult Bismarck Rotary tournament.

Cody Kuka, Khye Gamas, Jack Cornwell, Michael King, Mason Donaldson and Ethan Nickles all won their matches in Havre on Tuesday.

Kuka won the 103 class by forfeit for 6 points while Gamas won an 11-9 decision at 138 for 3 points. Cornwell, 152, and King, 160, both earned 6 points with falls: Cornwell in 1:45 and King in 2:59. Mason Donaldson took 3 points at 170 with a 4-1 decision and Nickles, 205, picked up 6 points with a fall at 1:33.

Havre won the dual by a 38-30 score over Glasgow.

The Scotties made more history in North Dakota, sending two Scottie girls to the championship finals. Riley Clampitt and Madison Lamb join former Scottie standout Kyler Hallock as the only three Scotties to make it to the finals at the Bismarck Rotary tournament. Hallock won his match last year in his senior season.

Clampitt, a freshman, won her match with a 5-2 decision over Arianna Aquilar of Minot, N.D., to take the medal at 155 lbs. The Scottie faced a field of 16 girls from the largest classification in North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota. Clampitt goes down in Glasgow history as the first member of the girls wrestling team to win in Bismarck.

Equally as impressive was Lamb. She lost a tight match to Kiera Aqular of Minot, N.D., in a 10-7 decision. The eighth-grader also made history by making the championship round at 145 lbs. and also made Scottie wrestling history as one of only three wrestlers to make the final match.

William Kirkland was the only Scottie boy to make the varsity podium, taking eighth place at 145 lbs. In JV action Andrew Leslie and Rhett Eklund brought home medals. Leslie took second place at 126 lbs. while Eklund finished fourth at 152. lbs.

The Scottie boys finished in 25th place with 35 team points while the girls took 17th place with 56 points.

The Scotties hosted the Class A Sidney Eagles for a dual Tuesday but results were unavailable at press time.

Glasgow travels to Miles City this weekend for another grueling tournament. The Scotties will wrestle in the 64th Annual Cowboy Invitational Friday and Saturday, Jan. 13 and 14. The team is back on the road Tuesday, Jan. 17, for a shorter road trip for the Poplar Mixer.
