The Glasgow School Board voted unanimously Jan. 2 to run two bond issues to finance a new elementary school plus improvements to East Side School and Glasgow High School.

A Glasgow resident urged the City Council to put up a stop sign on the corner of 2nd Street and 3rd Avenue North. Kelly Fuhrman, a resident of the area for 25 years, said drivers " fly through the area." He said he has seen near-accidents and children almost hit by cars. He said he has asked members of the City Council about getting a sign but nothing has been done.

With a limited squad, the Scottie mat men had three wrestlers place third and two more place in the top five in the Cut Bank Invitational on Friday and Saturday against 23 Class A and Class B/C teams.

A Glasgow Water Department employee was buried for 10 – 15 minutes under frozen mud and gravel on Dec. 30 when the trench he was working in collapsed. Co-workers and by-standers dug him out, first with their bare hands and then with shovels. He was taken by ambulance to Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital, treated for inhalation of dirt and released.

The Glasgow City Council was told Monday that six applications for patrolman have been received, and more are expected before the closing date of Jan. 9. Acting Chief of Police Mike Sukut also said that the tentative dates for testing the applicants are Jan. 26 and 27. He said he will advertise the Chief of Police position as soon as he is given the job specifications.

Not too many can imagine taking a trip down under to Australia and coming home an improved volleyball player. But, three Glasgow Scotties can truthfully say that it happened to them. Last summer, Jalynn Schultz, Erin Gilchrist, and Amanda Waarvik, three members of the two-time defending state Class B volleyball champions, had a golden opportunity to take a trip down to Australia.

New Valley County Board of Commissioners chairman Howard "Tiny" Cornwell and ex-Chairman Earl Daley, sat down with Glasgow city councilmen Wednesday night and hammered out preliminary details for rural resident participation in a city-county sanitary landfill district.

The price for saving a life in Glasgow Northside may very well be only 92 cents a year. Glasgow city councilmen served official notice on Dec. 20 of their intention to form a special lighting district covering three- tenths of a mile on Highland Drive, that approximate portion extends inside the city limits.

A record 100 percent attendance was noted at Friday's meeting of the Chamber of Commerce directors when Thomas Coghlan took over the gavel as president from Ed Swanson.

A $2.5 million supplemental appropriation for the Bureau of Indian Affairs will make it possible for some 3,000 Indian youth to receive scholarship grants enabling them to begin or continue their education in 1973 at the college level.

Total fire loss for Glasgow in 1947 was the low figure of $7,590, according to a summary prepared by Glasgow Volunteer Firemen at their meeting in the fire hall Tuesday night, Fire Chief Mark Roach reported.

Total precipitation recorded in Glasgow during 1947, which amounted to 15.12 inches, is more than two inches above normal and made it the wettest year since 1938, William Keating, official in charge of the Glasgow weather bureau station, reported today.

The Montana-Dakota Utilities company, beginning Jan.15 and continuing until further notice, will not permit the connection of any new gas space heating consumers to its lines. The only exception will be for structures that were actually under construction beyond the building of the basement on last Nov. 30.

Efforts to reorganize the Glasgow Cub pack, in which several Glasgow organizations are cooperating, will depend upon the cooperation and interest of parents, it was stated this week by O. H. Bundy, chairman of the Kiwanis club youth service committee, Cub sponsoring organization.
