Lustre Boys Add Two to Win Column

The Lions of Lustre Christian added two more to their win column this past weekend with victories over Nashua Dec. 16 and Culberston Dec. 17. Lustre Christian downed Nashua 71-22 at home before defeating Culbertson 54-41 on the road the next night.

Lustre rolled out to a 23-4 lead over Nashua Friday night, powered by 10 points from Cayden Klatt and 6 from Braden Ewing in the opening quarter. The Lions added another 14 in the second while holding the Porcupines to 11 points. Lustre shut out Nashua in the third quarter while adding 20 points to their score sheet. The Lions went deep into their bench in the final quarter, debuting young players, and added another 14 to the big board while holding Nashua to 7 points in the final eight minutes.

Ewing led the Lions with 16 points followed by Klatt with 15. Elijah Lenihan also hit double digits with 11 points. Clay Reddig connected for 7 points. Jasiah Hambira and Prestyn Klatt both added 6 points. P. Klatt hit two treys in his varsity debut for the Lions. Diek Olfert (also making his varsity debut), Bryan Chen, Johnslee Pierce, Byron Ewing and Nathan Fast each added a bucket for the Lions.

The Lions had 13 fouls, five in the second half, while Nashua held their infractions to seven, three in the second half. Reddig, Chen, Gabe Alves, Br. Ewing and By. Ewing were each called for two while C. Klatt, Lenihan and Pierce had one foul a piece.

Lustre faced a closer game in Culbertson, leading 12-7 at the end of the first and 22-20 at the half. The Lions put up 18 in the third while holding their hosts to 10. Lustre added another 14 in the final quarter while Culbertson connected for 11 points.

Both teams kept the officials busy with Lustre racking up 21 fouls, nine in the second half, and Culbertson drawing 25 whistles.

Chen fouled out of the game while Br. Ewing was called for four fouls. Hambira drew three whistles. Reddig, Alex Chen, Lenihan and By. Ewing each had two fouls and Alves had one.

Lustre Christian was scheduled to host Bainville Dec. 19 and travel to Scobey Dec. 20. The story will appear in next week's Courier.

The Lions are next scheduled to play in Frazer Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, for a 5:30 varsity girls game followed by the boys varsity game at 7 p.m.
