HS Ice Dawgs Win Two in Missoula

The Glasgow Ice Dawgs took two games off the Bruins in Missoula this past weekend. Glasgow won their first game 4-3 in overtime Dec. 17 and followed it with a 5-2 victory Dec. 18.

Charlie Cornwell started the scoring action for the Dawgs Saturday with an even strength goal late in the first period with help from Bode Barnett and Michael Hoyer.

Glasgow went up 2-0 in the second period on a goal from Tatum Hansen with assists from Barnett and Josh Llewellyn. Missoula scored to make it 2-1 before intermission.

The Bruins started the third period with two goals, scoring on a power play and again at even strength, taking a 3-2 lead midway through the third. The Dawgs tied the score on a goal from Trevor Dulaney, assists Hansen and Barnett, with 4:39 left in the third.

In overtime, captain Hoyer came through for the Dawgs with an even strength goal just 52 seconds into extra time.

Glasgow was called for five penalties totaling 18 minutes while Missoula held their infractions to two and four minutes.

Cornwell was called for interference, two minutes, in the first period and elbowing, two minutes, in the third. Tavin Boland sat for two minutes for tripping in the third. Lex Fairclough served a 2-and-10 for cross-checking and misconduct also in the third period.

Both teams put 23 shots on goal. Glasgow goalie Aidin Wilkowski turned in an 87.0 save percentage.

The Dawgs took control early Sunday, going up 3-0 after one period. Barnett hit a short-handed goal, with Zevin Kummerfeldt in the box for hooking, on an assist from Hansen to start the scoring. Kummerfeldt added his own goal shortly after being released. Hansen also netted a shortie, assists Barnett and Hoyer, while Peyton Hubbard was serving time for cross-checking.

Aidin Price scored in the second period with a helper from Kimber Dulaney to increase the Dawgs’ lead to 4-0.

The Bruins put two pucks past Wilkowski to start the third and cut into the Dawgs’ lead. Hoyer seasled Glasgow’s win with an even-strength goal with 1:27 left in the game.

The Dawgs racked p 26 penalty minutes on nine infractions while the Bruins held their penalties to three with six minutes in the box.

Kummerfeldt, hooking, and Hubbard, cross-checking, served time in the first period. Koski, roughing, and Hubbard, slashing, sat for two minutes in the second while Kummerfeldt was called for a 2-and-10 on boarding and misconduct. Hubbard, roughing; T. Dulaney, slashing, and Koski, elbowing, each sat for two minutes in the third.

Glasgow put 30 pucks on net while Wilkowski faced 20 shots on his home. Glasgow’s goalie turned in a 90.0 save percentage in the win.

The Dawgs have this week off for the holidays. They return to action Friday and Saturday, Dec. 30 and 31, to ring in the New Year with a pair of games agains the Butte Copper City Kings. The teams face off at 8 p.m. Friday at the Valley Event Center and again at 10 a.m. Saturday.
