Lustre Boys Win Two in Scobey

The Lustre Christian boys basketball team posted two wins at the Scobey Invitational this past weekend. The Lions defeated the Fairview Warriors 48-42 Friday and downed the Plentywood Wildcats 52-24 Saturday.

Lustre Christian took a 12-2 lead after the first quarter against Fairview and held a 23-17 advantage at the half. The Lions outscored the Warriors 12-10 in the third. Fairview rallied in the fourth with 15 points, but Lustre Christian put up 13 for the win.

Cayden Klatt put up 17 points for the Lions, connecting on three shots from downtown. Elijah Lenihan and Jasiah Hambira both added 9 points, with a three-pointer each. Clay Reddig hit two from outside and a free throw for 7 points. Byron Ewing added 4 with a field goal and 2-for-2 shooting at the charity stripe. Braden Ewing hit a field goal.

The Lions were called for 16 fouls, 10 in the second half. Br. Ewing and By. Ewing each had four while Hambira was called for three. Reddig drew two whistles while Klatt, Gabe Alves and Lenihan were called for one foul each.

Lustre had a slow offensive start against Plentywood – leading 7-6 at the end of the first – but turned up the heat with 17 points in the second for a 24-14 halftime lead. The Lions outscored the Wildcats 14-7 in the third and 14-3 in the final eight minutes.

Clatt led a balanced score sheet with 11 points, hitting a three in each of the first three quarters. Reddig hit two treys and a field goal for 8 points while Lenihan and Hambira both connected for 7 points. By. Ewing added 6, Bryan Chen and By. Ewing 4 each, Alves and Johnslee Pierre 2 a piece and Alex Chen 1 point.

Lustre was called for 13 fouls, six in the second half. B. Chen, Br. Ewing and By. Ewing each had three fouls while Lenihan was called for two. Reddig and Hambira drew one whistle each.

Lustre Christian hosts the Nashua Porcupines Friday, Dec. 16, with games beginning at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, the Lions travel to Culbertson for a 2:30 p.m. tip off. Monday, Dec. 19, they host Bainville with games beginning at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, the team is back in Scobey to play the Spartans at 4:30 p.m.
