Block of Bucks Raises Nearly $40,000

In the season of giving, Glasgow residents did just that this past weekend as nearly $40,000 - $39,749 to be exact - was collected from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Dec. 1, for the annual Block of Bucks event.

Volunteers braved below-zero temperatures and even the wind on Dec. 1 to stand at Glasgow’s two downtown intersections collecting money for the annual event. On Saturday, 200 children went shopping at the participating Glasgow businesses, Elle Boutique, Thistle & Thread, Mary’s Mercantile, Naked Acres, D&G Sports and Western, Mac & Mallow, Lularoe and Shippwrecked. Albertsons and Reynold’s Market was also available for diaper purchases. Due to the generous donations provided, each child had $180 to spend on essential such as winter clothing.

Both the collection and shopping event was sponsored by Caring Hands, Inc., formerly Soroptimist International of the Americas, and implemented by a number of different volunteers.
