After decades of putting up with blockages on the railroad crossing the middle of town, Nashua is going to have an overpass, according to a letter that Mayor Pat Hallett received from the Montana Department of Transportation and provided to The Courier.

The Valley County Commissioners have awarded a contract for the construction of a new concrete bridge on Canal Road west of Glasgow. The Federal Emergency Agency informed the commissioners that it would pay up to $750,000 to rebuild the bridge. The old wooden bridge over Brazil Creek was swept away by flood waters in 2011. It was built to replace the original structure that collapsed after a flood in 1947.

The Seattle Times had a special magazine insert displaying Boeing feats and an in-depth article and pictures of MARCO, flight testing and St Marie. Following the success of the "Dreamliner 787" with its carbon fiber composite structure fuel efficiency and quietness in flight, Boeing now announces its eco-demonstrator 737-800.

What started as a hobby for Lee Hawkins is turning into a full-time job. Especially around Christmas. The St. Marie man, who could be called a volunteer elf, started making toys for his children. Recently he has found himself busy making the toys, not only for his granddaughter Lynn Hawkins, but others as well.

A total of five students from this area are among the approximately 115,000 students included in the 20th Annual Edition of "The National Dean's List, 1997," just published by Educational Communications, Inc., Lake Forest, Ill.

A second half rally proved to be the turning points in the Northern/ Eastern B Divisional championship game. Glasgow fell behind in the first half, trailing by six, 27-21. But, the second half belonged to the Scotties as they outscored the Malta M-ettes, 32-26, to tie the game and send it into overtime. In the overtime period, the Scotties jumped in front of the Malta crew and held on for a 61-58 win.

Glasgow gained an active, involved family when Ken Jansa was recruited as the new vice president and commercial loan officer at Valley Bank. He has recently moved from Livingston, where he was president of the Northwest Bank.

Thursday, Nov. 30, 1972

The Christmas season " came and went" almost overnight in Glasgow. Last week the third annual community Christmas tree was hoisted into place in downtown Glasgow. By Sunday morning, the tree had disappeared. The culprit ended up being the wind.

A Citizen Band Radio club, being organized at Glasgow Air Force Base for use in emergency and rescue work, already has proved its worth in a recent rescue of an injured motorist.

Lewis Archambeault, Fort Peck area rancher, was named president of the National Public Lands Council at its recent meeting in Salt Lake City, Archambeault succeeds Jim Coughlin, of Yarnell, Ariz.

Thursday, Nov. 27, 1947

Hinsdale residents state this sugar beet stockpile there is the largest of three in Valley County. It contains 8,900 tons. The new Great Northern loading spur is in the foreground. The stockpile is now being loaded by portable loader and shovel for shipment to the company's Chinook factory.

Clifford W. Cox, a veteran of more than 25 years in the newspaper business, will assume duties as publisher and general manager of The Glasgow Courier Friday.

Some Glasgow residents, were roused while other awake at the hour, reported that an earthquake shock at about 2:50 Sunday morning was clearly felt.

Bob Bertsch, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Bertsch of Glasgow, received high Boy Scout rank when he was presented with his Eagle badge at a Buffalo Plains district court of honor in Nashua.
