Glasgow Football Closes Out Season With Monster Win Over Wolf Point

Enter Playoffs as Number Two Seed

Though it's too early for the Scottie Field Recharged committee to begin construction, the Glasgow football team jumpstarted the work by tearing up the grid iron Oct. 21 againstWolf Point. The Scotties trounced the Wolves 68-13 in a Senior Night spectacular to close out their regular season with a 7-2 overall record, 4-1 in conference play. Glasgow enters the Class B playoffs as the number two seed.

Glasgow stopped Wolf Point in their opening drive and converted the Scotties' possession into a touchdown less than three minutes into the game. Tatum Hansen, on his first carry of the game, crossed seven yards and passed the Wolf Point defenders to put six points on the board for the Scotties. Jack-o-lantern Cornwell added two points on the conversion attempt on a carry.

Hansen added his second touchdown with 3:31 remaining in the first quarter on a 40-yard carry, leaving the Wolves to howl at the moon behind him. Cornwell snagged a pass from Mason Donaldson to take the score to 16-0.

Wolf Point scored on a 48-yard bomb from quarterback Juliun Benson - who swings the bats for the Reds in the summer - to Gaige Bushman to close out the first 12 minutes of play. Glasgow answered less than 30 seconds into the second quarter with a long bomb of their own. Donaldson found Ashton Potter from 34 yards out for the Scotties' third touchdown of the game. Donaldson kept the football on the two-point attempt to build up his team's lead to 24-6.

Hansen continued his scoring show with his third TD on a three yard run. The two-point attempt was successful on yet another Cornwell rush. Mo Fast got in on the scoring action with a 17-yard run for a touchdown, followed by a successful two-point conversion rush by Toryn Richards less than midway through the second quarter.

Richards, after a number of hard runs, scored his own touchdown on a one-yard carry with 1:49 remaining in the first half. Donaldson connected with Wyatt Babb on the two-point attempt to start the running clock with Glasgow up 46-6.

The Scotties were far from done with their show though and kicked off the second half with another touchdown by Hansen. In an unusual move for Glasgow, Donaldson threw a 61-yard pass to the running back who carried it over the goal line. The Scottie coaching staff did not mess with a sure thing, sending Cornwell into the end zone on a rush for the two-point conversion giving the home team a 60-6 advantage.

Glasgow closed out the third quarter with yet another shot fired from the cannon. Khye Gamas, in at quarterback, found Wyatt Babb in the end zone on a 22-yard pass.

Wolf Point got back on the scoreboard with less than six minutes remaining in the game when Corey Martell ran the ball in. The Wolves followed with a successful PAT.

Mason Hunter answered with a three-run tour down the field including a kick-off return, culminating in a 10-yard touchdown rush. Gamas added the extra two on a quarterback keeper. The Scotties' 68-13 lead would hold as the clock ticked down to the last 3:15 of the game.

The Scotties had 482 total offensive yards with a net of 437 yards after losing yardage to penalties (15 yards), sacks (7 yards) and bad snaps (23 yards). Glasgow had 316 rushing yards on 30 carries and 166 receiving yards on seven catches.

Hansen led in rushing yards with 101 yards on 10 carries and three touchdowns. Richards added 92 yards on seven carries with a touchdown. Gamas had 46 yards on three carries, followed by Cornwell with 25 yards on a single rush. Donaldson had one carry for 20 yards and Fast added 17 yards with his TD carry. Hunter had two carries for 15 yards with a touchdown.

Hansen also led in receiving yards with 63 on two catches with a touchdown. Babb had two catches for 42 yards and a touchdown while Potter had a 34 yard catch for six points. Connor Hudyma added 22 yards on a reception and Donaldson caught a five yard pass from Fast.

Donaldson completed four-of-eight passes for 117 yards with two touchdowns at quarterback. Gamas went two-for-three for 44 yards with one touchdown while Fast was one-for-one for five yards.

Glasgow's defense also put on a show, holding Wolf Point to 229 offensive yards. They allowed the Wolves 52 yards on 21 carries and 177 yards passing.

"We knew going in the key to the game was holding Wolf Point's QB, Benson, in check. He's a dynamic player and gave us fits in the scramble game," said assistant coach Sam Tedrow. "Proud of our guys playing to the whistle and chasing him down. Also fantastic experience for our younger guys to see speed like that."

Benson went 11-for-29 on passes with Glasgow snatching three interceptions. Aiden Hoerster, Potter and Gamas each thwarted a throw by the Wolves' quarterback. Hoerster and Potter each gained two yards on their interceptions while Gamas picked up 30 yards.

The Scotties' defensive line turned in a balanced performance with 20 players – far beyond a skeleton crew – notching tackles in the win. Fast, Kohl Kittleson, Potter and Gamas each had four total tackles while Cornwell, Richards, Vaughn Miller and Dylan Linder racked up three a piece. Ethan Nickles, Grady Nielsen, Dillon Hughes, Tavin Boland and Mason Hunter added two each. Babb, Coy Nelson, Hoerster, Hudyma, Nic Solorzano, Will Kirkland and James Pearson each had one tackle.

Babb, Linder and Pearson each had a sack in the game. Fast had three tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Nate Hengtes, Nielsen, Hoerster and Gamas each broke up a Wolf Point pass.

Kittleson had 210 yards on eight kickoffs while Rex Monson added 60 yards on two kicks. Babb had one punt for 34 yards. Hunter had two kick off returns for 71 yards and Hudyma had one return for two yards. Potter had two punt returns for 64 yards with one muff.

Glasgow enters the Class B Football Championship Series as the number two seed in the North. They face Baker, third out of the East, at Scottie Field Saturday, Oct. 29, for a 1 p.m. kickoff. Gates open at 11:30 a.m. The game will be carried on Mix-93 FM and the NFHS Network.

Glasgow and Baker have met 28 times in their history. Glasgow leads the all-time series 15-13 and head into this match-up with a five-year win streak over the Spartans.

"Need a great week of practice for a Baker offense that will show a heavy formation one play and spread it out the next. Looking forward to seeing the momentum created against Wolf Point carry into the playoffs," Tedrow said. "We're not done yet!"
