Baker Sets School Record at Custer County Invite

XC Girls Third, Boys Sixth

The Scottie cross country team turned in 10 personal records and a season best time at the Custer County Invitational Oct. 1. Tanae Baker also set a new school record.

Glasgow's girls cross country team put up 140 points in Miles City to take third place. They came in behind Hardin, 38, and Sheridan, 50. Sidney placed fourth with 144 and Havre fifth with 148 points.

The Scottie boys placed sixth with 202 points. Sheridan won the event with 39 points, followed by Hardin, 93; Laurel, 113; Custer County, 167, and Havre, 171.

Baker led the Scottie varsity girls with a personal best time of 18:52.4 and a fourth place finish out of 114 runners. The time earned the sophomore a place in the Scottie record books for breaking Iris McKean's 2021 record of 19:17.0.

Emily See cracked the top ten as well with a sixth place finish. She ran a personal best at 19:23.8. Kimber Dulaney ran a 22:26.5 for 34th place. Kheyerah Bilger took 56th place with her time of 23:37.7.

Caylen Jankowski ran a 23:59.9 for 62nd place and Riley Evenson-Glasoe ran a 24:03.1 to take 65th place. Haylly Turner finished in 75th place with a season best time of 24:33.8 to round out the varsity girls team.

Reed Larsen set a personal best in the boys varsity competition with a time of 16:30.5. The senior finished in sixth place out of 125 runners. Kyler Holinde finished in 27th place with a time of 17:45.5. Lane Thompson finished the course in 18:42.1 for 45th place and KJ Ingram ran a 19:09.1 for 61st place. Ted See finished in 81st place with a time of 20:04.1.

Adam Mickelson took 85th place with a time of 20:11.1, a personal best for the sophomore. "I am enjoying this year's XC season a lot! This is the first year I've been in varsity and am hopefully going to state," he enthused. "I PRed last year at my last meet in Malta with 20:12 and at this last week's Miles City meet, and got a 20:11. We also still have a few meets left for me to improve my time a little more. My goal time to reach by state is 19:00 or less."

Eli Feezell took 90th place with a time of 20:25.6.

The JV teams also turned in some impressive performances in Custer County. The boys team took seventh place with 202 points while the girls did not post a team score with only three runners.

Josie Kemp led the JV girls with a personal record. She took 31st place out of 55 runners with a time of 26:02.7. Mary Dykema ran a 26:10.4, another personal best, for 33rd place. Eve Stone ran a 34:33.9 to take 52nd place.

Kyler Whitman finished first for the boys JV team. He ran a 21:10.6 for 39th place out of 80 runners. James Seekins took 50th place after running a 21:55.2. Malin Beck set a personal record at 22:08.2 and placed 56th place. Owen Thompson ran a 22:03.5, another personal best, for 63rd place.

Jordan Cook finished directly behind Owen Thompson, taking 64th place with a time of 22:43.6. Dylan Hlad ran a personal best time of 23:54.7 for 72nd place. Vick Overbey took 74th place with his personal record time of 24:27.2.

Mickelson told the Courier, "I also really appreciate Coach Karst and Coach Hughes for their dedication and support for the team. The XC team is a great group of supportive and encouraging people and I love being a part of this team."

The Scotties attended the 53rd annual Frazer Invitational Oct. 4, after the initial race was postponed due to course conditions.

Glasgow's cross country teams will attend the Malta Invitational Saturday, Oct. 8, for a 10 a.m. start.
