Scottie Football 4-1 Defeats Cut Bank 12-6

Glasgow's football team improved their overall record to 4-1, 1-0 in Northern B play, with a 12-6 road victory over Cut Bank Sept. 23.

The first quarter ended in a 0-0 draw but Cut Bank was first to light up the scoreboard, getting a touchdown with 4:18 remaining before halftime.

Glasgow answered with just over a minute left in the half as Tatum Hansen shook loose from the Wolves' defense to carry the ball over the goal line. The Scotties' two-point attempt was shut down right at the line to tie the game at 6-6 heading into the half.

"Gritty performance by our defense against an athletic Cut Bank team. They were able to get a few big plays on us in the first half, but after a few halftime adjustments our secondary responded and shut them down," said assistant coach Sam Tedrow. "Our adjustments put the D-line in a tough spot only rushing three or four guys, but Tatum and Kohl [Kittleson] kept the pressure on their QB and gave our secondary opportunities to make big plays."

The changes at halftime showed immediately in the second half as Mo Fast snagged a Cut Bank pass to regain possession for Glasgow deep in their own territory. A defensive battle brewed and though it took the Scotties the rest of the third quarter, they took the lead with 23 ticks left on the clock.

Hansen scored again with a run straight up the middle, leaving Wolves defenders behind. Glasgow was unable to convert their two-point attempt after a failed snap, giving them a 12-6 lead to start the final quarter.

Glasgow's lead held for the remaining 12 minutes of play as their defense shone. Toryn Richards snagged an interception halfway through the third and Ashton Potter did the same with less than a minute left in the game.

"These guys didn't quit, I absolutely love it," Tedrow told the Courier. "Ashton got called for PI [pass interference] late in the game on fourth down and our guys rallied around him. He kept battling and came through in the clutch with a massive pick to seal the game."

Offensively, the Scottie coaching staff was just as proud. "I'm happy for our guys to leave Cut Bank with the win. I thought our O-line did a really good job this week of holding blocks and making great running lanes for our backs," said assistant coach Dylan Hughes. "We were able to complete a few passes in big moments that allowed our drives to continue. Cut Bank is a solid team up front and I'm proud of our guys for battling the way they did."

Glasgow's offense turned in a clean game with no turnovers, losing only eight yards with one sack. They had 193 rushing yards. Hansen led the Scotties, scoring two touchdowns on 27 carries and 140 yards. Quarterback Mason Donaldson contributed 18 yards on five carries followed by Toryn Richards and Jack Cornwell with 15 yards each, on five and four carries respectively. Fast added five yards on one carry.

The Scotties notched 49 receiving yards led by Wyatt Babb, who had 37 yards on three catches. Cornwell added 12 yards with two catches. Donaldson completed 5-of-10 passes.

Glasgow had 242 total yards offensively, 172 net yards, with 62 yards lost to penalties.

The Scottie defense was led by Ethan Nickels and Cornwell, each with seven total tackles. Nickels had four unassisted while Cornwell had five on his own. Hansen and Kittleson had six total tackles each, four of Hansen's unassisted. Babb added five total, four unassisted while Richards and Grady Nielsen tallied four total tackles each.

Fast, Richards, Potter and Aiden Hoerster each had an interception with Richards getting 19 yards on his, Potter 11 yards and Hoerster two yards gain. Glasgow had three sacks in the game, credited to Babb, Nickles, Hansen and Kittleson.

The Scotties allowed the Wolves 137 total yards after penalties, giving up an average of 2.96 yards per carry.
