Local Youth Shine at High School Rodeo

The Glasgow fairgrounds were busy Sept. 24 and 25 with high school rodeo competitors from across the state hitting the arena to showcase their western skills. The two full days of action featured a variety of traditional rodeo events with Valley County represented by competitors from Glasgow, Hinsdale, Saco, Nashua and Opheim.

Glasgow's Jack Cornwell placed second overall in the Boys All Around Points with 39 points. Charlie Cornwell, also of Glasgow, placed fifth with 24 points. Nashua's Kasey Forum earned 19 points for 12th place and Opheim's Ty Westby finished 16th with 8 points.

Brooke Billingsley, of Glasgow, led the Valley County girls, taking third place with 44 total points in the Girls All Around Points. Hinsdale's Teonna Funk placed 14th with 15.5 points and Saco's Laynee Simpson earned 2 points for 20th place.

Goat Tying

Billingsley earned 3 points with a time of 11.49 on day one and 1 point on day two with a time of 17.00 with a total time of 28.49.

Pole Bending

Billingsley earned 10 points on day one with a time of 22.56 followed by a time of 22.69 for 7 points on day two for a total time of 45.25. Funk earned 5 points with a time of 25.11 on day one and 1 point on day two with a time of 39.19 for a total time of 64.30.

Steer Wrestling

Forum scored 10 points on day with a time of 7.84 with no points earned on day two. J. Cornwell earned no points on day one but scored 9 points on the second day with a time of 12.90. C. Cornwell turned in no successful times in the event.

Breakaway Roping

Simpson earned 2 points on the second day with a time of 11.87. Funk and Billingsley earned no points in the event.

Tie Down Roping

J. Cornwell earned 9 points on day one and 4 points on day two with times of 15.19 and 23.48 for a 38.67 total time. C. Cornwell earned 7 points on day two with a time of 19.07. Forum and Westby competed but were unable to put any points in their columns.

Barrel Racing

Billingsley earned 10 points on both days. She had a total time of 36.24 with an 18.36 on day one followed by 17.88 on day two. Funk had an 18.85 time on day one for 4 points and and 18.66 for 5.5 points on day two with a total time of 37.51. Simpson had a time of 20.21 on day two but finished out of scoring.
