Reds Close Out Regular Season

The Glasgow Reds closed out their 2022 regular season this past week, going 2-4 for a final record of 12-22.

Glasgow hosted the Billings Blue Jays Monday and dropped both games, 14-7 and 19-4. On Wednesday they traveled to Sidney to take a pair off the Richland County Patriots, 13-2 and 14-3. Their season concluded in Laurel with two losses to the Dodgers, 10-2 and 18-0.

The Reds held the lead for most of their first game against Billings on Monday, holding a 6-2 advantage after five innings. Billings, however, surged in the sixth and seventh innings with 4 and 8 runs, respectively. The visitors held Glasgow to a single run in the seventh at the same time to snatch the victory.

JT Sprague took the loss for the Reds after allowing six runs on four hits over one and one-third innings. He threw a 47.8 strike percentage with two strikeouts. Mason Hunter started the game on the mound, allowing two runs on three hits with two strikeouts and a 52.6 strike percentage. Aiden Price relieved him for a third of an inning, giving up four runs on two hits with a 37.5 strike percentage. Jack Kolstad closed out the game, with one strikeout on a 37.5 strike percentage while allowing two runs on one hit.

Glasgow was outhit 10-8 in the game. Jeramiah Benson went 3-for-4 at the plate while Sprague and Juliun Benson were 2-for-3. Price notched one hit. Jeramiah Benson had three RBIs to lead the Reds followed by Sprague with two and Tatum Hansen and Rance Rhoads with one each. Jeramiah Benson, Hansen and Price all turned in a stolen base.

The Reds went up after one inning in game two, but the Blue Jays took control after three innings. Billings sealed the game with a 10-run performance in the fifth followed by a shutout of the home team.

The Blue Jays outhit the Reds 9-5. Hunter went 2-for-3 at the plate with Sprague, Juliun Benson and Rhoads logging the other three hits. Hunter also led in RBIs with three while Jack Kolstad added one. Hansen notched the team’s two stolen bases.

Price took the loss on the mound, giving up one run on two hits over two-thirds of an inning with a 42.1 strike percentage. Jordan Plummer started the game, throwing a 66.7 strike percentage with two strikeouts while giving up six runs on four hits. Kolstad allowed two runs while throwing a 27.8 strike percentage over one third of an inning.

Jeramiah Benson allowed one run while throwing one strikeout on a 40.0 strike percentage. Walker Laumeyer also pitched a 40.0 strike percentage. He allowed nine runs on three hits over one-third of an inning. Hansen closed out the game allowing no runs or hits on a 25.0 strike percentage.

Glasgow ended their first game against Richland County Wednesday after five innings after driving in five runs in the fourth and four in the fifth.

The Reds notched nine hits to the Patriots’ three in the game. Jeramiah Benson and Plummer both went 2-for-3 at bat. Sprague, Juliun Benson, Hansen, Hunter and Kolstad connected once each at the plate. Glasgow’s eight RBIs were split evenly between Sprague, Hansen, Rhoads, Jeramiah Benson, Hunter, Laumeyer, Plummer and Kolstad. Juliun Benson had two stolen bases.

Rhoads earned the win in five innings on the mound. He allowed two runs on three hits. Rhoads threw 10 strikes with a 66.3 strike percentage.

The Reds shut down game two after six innings with a seven-run performance in the sixth inning. They allowed the Patriots only three runs in the fourth inning.

Sprague earned the victory over four innings on the mound. He allowed the three runs on two hits while throwing six strikeouts and a 62.5 strike percentage. Juliun Benson relieved him for two innings. The relief pitcher hurled three strikeouts on an 80.0 strike percentage while allowing no runs on one hit.

Glasgow outhit Richland County 8-3, led by Juliun Benson’s 3-for-5 showing. Rhoads hit 2-of-3 and Sprague went 2-for-4 at bat. Kolstad was 1-for-2. Sprague, Juliun Benson and Rhoads each had two RBIs with Jeramiah Benson, Gage Siefert and Plummer adding one a piece. Hansen had two stolen bases in the win while Jeramiah Benson, Juliun Benson, Kolstad and Toryn Richards each contributed one.

The Reds fell to the East A leaders, the Laurel Dodgers, on Friday after the Dodgers built up their lead with a five-run second inning showing.

Glasgow was outhit 10-2 in game one with Rhoads and Jeramiah Benson both going 1-for-2 at bat. Jeramiah Benson had the team’s two RBIs and Hansen had the Reds’ lone stolen base.

Richards took the loss on the mound, giving up seven runs on nine hits over five innings. He threw one strikeout with a 60.2 strike percentage. Siefert relieved him for one inning, pitching a 56.0 strike percentage. He allowed three runs on three hits.

Laurel shut down game two after five and one-half innings, powered by seven runs in the first followed by 10 in the second inning. They allowed Glasgow only two hits as Juliun Benson and Richards both connected at the plate. Juliun Benson also had the only stolen base for the Reds.

Plummer took the loss for Glasgow, pitching two-thirds of inning. He gave up seven runs on six hits with two strikeouts and a 73.3 strike percentage. Jon Grimes relieved him, giving up 11 runs on 13 hits with a 56.2 strike percentage. Laumeyer finished out the game, allowing no runs or hits over two-thirds of inning. He threw one strikeout and a 55.0 strike percentage.
