Valley County Primary Election Results

In the primary election on June 7 Valley County totaled 2,186 votes cast out of 4,859 registered voters, a 44 percent voter turnout with a majority being case absentee.

Democrats cat 450 ballots, Libertarians had 42 ballots counted, and Republicans returned 1,694 ballots.

The Special Levy to Fund VVHHD, voters cast their ballots in favor of the measure by a 1,161 to 968 count.

DEMOCRATIC

PRIMARY RESULTS

Penny Ronning earned the nomination for United States Representative 2nd District on the Democratic ticket with 210 votes. Mark Sweeney, who died May 6, received 127 votes and 70 votes were cast for Skylar Williams.

Eighteen write-in votes were cast for Public Service Commissioner District 1.

Frank Smith earned 63 votes to take the Democratic nomination for State Representative District 31 and Kaci Wallette received 56 votes.

Jordan Ophus was the sole candidate for State Representative District 33, receiving 149 votes.

Four write-in votes were cast for State Representative District 34.

LIBERTARIAN

PRIMARY RESULTS

Sam Rankin received the nod for the Libertarians US Representative2nd District nominee with 12 votes. Roger Roots earned 10 and Samuel Thomas eight votes in the tally.

No votes were cast for State Representative District 1. One write-in vote was returned for State Representative District 33 and four write-in votes were counted for State Representative District 34.

REPUBLICAN PRIMARY RESULTS

Matt Rosendale ran away with the Republican nomination for US Representative 2nd District, outpacing his fellow candidates by over 1,000 votes. Rosendale had 1,234 votes to second-place candidate Kyle Austin, who had 209 votes. James Boyette received 94 and Charles A. Walkingchild 56 votes. There were six write-in votes.

Incumbent Randy Pinocci earned the nomination for Public Service Commissioner District 1 with 937 votes to 416 for K. Webb Galbreath. Six write-in votes were cast.

Arlie W. Gordon, the lone Republican candidate for State Representative District 31, received 245 votes with six going to write-in candidates.

Incumbent Casey James Knudsen, who ran unopposed, earned 616 votes for State Representative District 33 with four write-in votes cast.

Fellow incumbent Rhonda Knudsen, State Representative District 34, also ran unopposed. She received 522 votes. Eight write-in votes were counted.

NONPARTISAN PRIMARY RESULTS

Jim Rice earned 1,539 votes for Supreme Court Justice 1 to the 236 votes cast for Bill D’Alton. Five write-in votes were counted.

James Brown edged out Ingrid Gustafson for Supreme Court Justice 2 by a 776 to 748 margin. Michael F. McMahon received 328 votes and five write-in votes were cast.
