Serving Proudly As The Voice Of Valley County Since 1913

Glasgow's MVD Ready To Serve

The Glasgow Motor Vehicle Division has been at 313 Klein Ave., in Glasgow since January and offers services such as renewing your driver’s and commercial driver’s license, issuing and renewal of State identification cards as well as the written and skilled testing for driver’s license, CDL and motorcycle testing. You are also able to upgrade your identification to the Montana Real ID in the office as well.

Driver’s examiner Kellie Parks splits her time between the Glasgow, Scobey and Wolf Point offices to help serve the needs along the Hi-Line. As a result she is only available on Mondays and Fridays in the Glasgow office and advises the best way to see her would be to make an appointment.

“Right now, the schedule is about a month out,” she explains. Appointments can be made by visiting dojmt.gov/driving which allows you to schedule an appointment for all written and road tests, out of state license conversions, all VIN inspections and to renew identification cards as well as licenses. Appointments can also be made by calling 406-444-1772.

“We don’t have a local number right now, but we are trying to get one established,” stated Parks. Walk-ins are welcome however depending on the appointments that have been made for the day, Parks advises to be prepared to wait.

The MVD was previously located at 1st Ave. S., next to Head Start and Dr. Troy Myers’ office however relocated to Klein Ave. in order to be near other state offices such as the Probation and Parole Office and the Montana State Public Defender office. “We are able to share services such as Internet and this location offers a bigger space than the one that we were in,” said Parks.

Though is it not a requirement to get a Montana REAL ID compliant license or identification at this time, a Montana REAL ID compliant license or identification or another acceptable form of identification will be required to fly domestically and access federal facilities starting May 3, 2023. Parks explained a number of documents are needed in order to apply for a REAL ID, including a government certified US birth certificate, valid unexpired US Passport, certificate of naturalization, certificate of citizenship, consular report of birth abroad or a permanent resident card, form I-551. In addition, if your current legal name doesn’t match the documents being submitted, all legal name changes must be proven by supplying a document that shows the name change such as government certified marriage license, government certification of marriage, government certified declaration of marriage, court order granting a name change, among others. Montana residency also needs to be shown by providing two documents that have your name, current physical address and be unexpired or dated within a year. Examples of these types of documents include credit card statement, first class mail with postmark, insurance policy, pay stub, phone bill, etc. More information regarding the approved paperwork needed can be found by visiting mtrealid.gov.

Parks could not emphasize enough the need to make an appointment if you find your identification is expiring and/or need to complete a written or skills test. “Try to schedule your appointment a month in advance so you know it will work for when it works for you,” she stressed.

The Glasgow office is open Mondays 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and closed for lunch from noon to 1 p.m. The office is also open Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and closed for lunch from noon to 1 p.m. CDL testing is available the first, third, and fifth Tuesdays of the month.

Scobey’s office is open the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the Wolf Point office is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., closed for lunch 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m. You also have the ability to make an appointment at other out-of-town offices if you find yourself having to travel for shopping, doctor’s appointments or just for a little get-away.
