FMDH Foundation Scholarships Available

The FMDH Foundation is once again offering scholarships to qualifying students! The Foundation is continually grateful to our donors who are always thinking of others, knowing they might need a helping hand. With nine named scholarships and $30,000 available to give, we encourage students to apply if they meet the requirements. The Scholarship Committee is excited to review the applications of our future nurses, doctors or students in other medically related fields!

The Frank Heckner Memorial Scholarship is funded by a charitable trust gifted by Frank Heckner in October 1989.

Applicant must be enrolled in a medically related program

Applicant must be at least a second-year student

Applicant must carry a GPA of 2.0 or better

The Theo & Alyce Beck Memorial Scholarship was established in December 1996.

Applicant must be a graduate of a Valley County High School

Applicant must be enrolled in a medically related program

The Anna Berge Memorial Scholarship was established in December 2008. Anna had been a teacher for more than 27 years in Hinsdale, Mont.

Applicant must be a graduate of a Valley County High School

The Helen Tihista Marks Memorial Scholarship was established in June 2011 by her children. Helen started as a nurse’s aide when she was 15, and her passion for the field only grew from there.

Applicant must be a graduate of a Valley County or Phillips County High School

Applicant must be enrolled in a nursing program

Applicant must be at least a second-year student

Applicant must carry a GPA of 2.0 or better

The Vera Terry Nursing Scholarship was established in January 2014 by her daughter. Vera worked several years in the nursing field; including many years spent at FMDH. It was her passion, and this scholarship is to encourage others to follow theirs.

Applicant must be a graduate of a Northeast Montana High School

Applicant must be enrolled in a nursing program

Applicant must carry a GPA of 2.0 or better

The Donald J. Baker Scholarship was established in May 2017 by the Foundation Scholarship Committee. With the generous unrestricted bequest he gifted, the committee wanted to honor him with this named scholarship.

The Sever & Esther Enkerud Nursing Scholarship was established in October 2018 by Sever Enkerud. He wanted to honor his wife Esther, who had a dream to be a nurse when she was a young girl and pursued it passionately. Esther passed away in 2015 and Sever is happy to help local students pursue their nursing dreams.

The Deborah Guenther Nursing Scholarship was established in December 2018 by Keith and Deborah Guenther. Deborah has been a Perioperative nurse since 1986, and upon retirement, wanted to give back. Keith and Deborah believe in the importance of a nursing education, including certification, and how it relates to the quality of care. This scholarship supports the nursing education and standards of care practiced when obtaining a degree or continuing to gain certification.

Applicant must be a graduate of a Montana High School of an FMDH employee

Preference may be given to nurses working toward certification such as CNOR

Applicant must be at least a second-year student, if not an RN already, and applying to a related program to further their education.

Applicant must carry a GPA of 3.0 or better

The Richard Winderl Scholarship was established in July 2020. Richard was a lifelong Valley County resident and the “neighborhood watchman.” He continues watching over the community he loved so much with his gift to the scholarship fund, helping to encourage our rural students down a medical path of success.

To apply, the following documentation must accompany each scholarship application:

Most recent official college transcripts (No web printouts will be accepted).

Two current and original letters of recommendation (No recommendation will be accepted without a date or if photocopied). If you’ve previously applied, you will need new recommenders each year.

An Essay - Minimum one page single spaced: “Why I am pursuing a career in healthcare and how this scholarship would assist me in obtaining my goals.” (If you applied previously, must have an updated essay.)

Name and address of school where the check would be sent if awarded (No checks will be issued directly to students).

You may mail your application to FMDH Foundation Office, 621 3 rd Street South, Glasgow, MT 59230 or you may email it to the Foundation Coordinator at [email protected]. All applications are due by May 31, 2022.
