GHS Presents Freaky Friday

For the first time in two years, Glasgow High School students will once again grace the stage and put on a production for an audience. This year's show, Freaky Friday, is the musical adaptation of the Disney Channel original movie about a mother and her teenage daughter who experience the biggest freak-out ever when they magically swap bodies. By spending a day in each other's shows, Katherine and Ellie come to appreciate one another in a way they could never imagined. In the end, both learn the true power of love and the strength of the bond between a mother and daughter.

The production include cast members Tommi Prewett, Saryn Riddick, Ali Kuka, Lane Thompson, Chase Tarum, Kassi Norcutt, Adam Mickleson, Kambria Ross, Joely Chappell, Riley Clampitt, He'Lena Stulc, Blaire Westby, Tanner White, Blake Lloyd, Zavier Urbin, Jorden Mix, Noah Lippert, Constance Youpee, John Wyatt Lawson, Olivia Helland, Ben Kompel, and Madison Wood with the stage managed by Alesia Hopstad. The show is directed by Desiree Johnson with musical direction and choreography by Luree Green-Chappell.

Ross has an unique perspective in this year's production as she is the only cast member to have been a part of a high school production in the past. The other cast members have participated in the Fort Peck Summer Theatre and middle school productions however due to the pandemic and not being in previous productions prior to the pandemic, this will be their first time under the direction of Johnson and Green-Chappell.

"It is certainly a different environment. It's a lot cooler to be working with an older cast and it's more of a professional setting," explained freshman Mickelson who will also play Adam in the show and performed in all three productions at the middle school. Sophomore White, playing Louis, also spent all three years in middle school productions, shares the same sentiment. "It's a lot of fun because I have developed a lot of friendships and bonds. It feels more professional and I get to go more in depth on things."

The audition process for the production started in November and practices started after Christmas break. Due to cast changes, Johnson also recruited students to be a part of the show, including Kompel and Kuka. "Ali has been in Fort Peck productions and has only been in the show for three weeks. She has really picked up!" explained Ross. Kompel is part of the Glasgow High School's acting class and according to Ross, has also caught on quickly. Eighth-grader Riley Clampitt, who recently played Ursula in this year's production of The Little Mermaid at the middle school, will be playing Kitty-Lou and was also recruited by Johnson to be a part of the high school production. "It was nerve-wracking at first, then once I got to know everyone, I now know what it will feel like next year," explained Clampitt.

"This is a stressful year compared to freshman year. It's very spontaneous and it's hard to focus. We are all best friends so sometimes we goof off instead of listening," laughed Ross. "During my freshman year we ran the show for three weeks, we ran it and ran it. It's so different but I would much rather have a group that is close than a group put together quickly with no connection. The audience will see the connection and that we are having fun together."

Golden ticket night is Thursday, April 7, with the show running from April 8 through 11. The students admit it hasn't quite hit them yet but they know they will be ready when the curtain opens. "Riley and I will be the two freaking out backstage!" laughed Ross, while Mickelson admits it really hit him on Sunday afternoon.

"Overall it's a fun show. The cast is fun and the audience will see that," stated White. Clampitt, White, Mickelson and Ross also admit the show would not happen if it wasn't for Johnson and Green-Chappell. "We appreciate them! They are everything to us!"

Performances for the production will be at the Glasgow High School. The Friday, Saturday and Monday show will be at 7 p.m. with a Sunday matinee at 4 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door, $10 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.
